The Man of Shadows and Starlight

Rain drops running down the window pane,

Watching them fall to keep me sane.

For there is a man made of shadow and starlight,

And he comes to me at night.

There are galaxies within his form,

Nebulas from before I was born.

Shadows dancing over him,

My one devoted sin.

He comes to love me as the world falls down,

And darkness, like a blanket, has covered the town.

I wait each day in anticipation,

For my soul's reparation.

He found his way into my heart,

Long ago, now I've no wish to part.

I belong to him of my own accord,

Settling in, like boats in a fjord.

But what I know in his touch and kiss,

That he is as much mine as I am his.

For when we're together, it's like the stars have aligned,

Heart and soul, body and mind.

However when the dawn breaks and the sun glows,

The shadows disperse and it is time to go.

Leaving me empty and cold,

Without shadows and starlight to hold.

And so I watch the rain run in rivulets,

While I wait for the sun to set.

Until constellations light the sky once more,

And a man of shadow and starlight will be at my door.
