In the Dead of Night

Broken mansion sits on a hill,

The night around it is so still.

They say it is abandoned now,

Left behind to become ruins.

Shattered glass covers the grass,

And through the windows, the wind does pass.

Dusty webs decorate the halls,

And a furniture cover falls.

They say it is abandoned today,

Wrapped in the sorrows of yesterday.

No one knows what caused the fire,

But they do know of the legend’s desire.

An entire household with lovers or not,

And a baby resting in its cot,

Once lived here,

Before the mansion was something to fear.

They say it is abandoned now,

And on this notion make their vow.

However in the dead of  night,

At the time there is no light,

Figures are seen.

Hundreds of figures and flickers,

Dance around chairs of wicker.

Soft singing echoes through the walls,

Into the floors and around the halls.

An unfinished dancing ball,

Continues at night’s call.

Translucent shadows seen,

Waltzing on carpets green.

A broken mansion sits on a hill,

The night around it is so still.

They say it is abandoned now,

Left behind to become ruins.
