Broken

People speak of sticks and stones,

Causing broken bones.

People speak of names not causing pain,

But as I gaze at eternal rain,

I know those people are wrong.

If sticks and stones,

Can cause broken bones,

Surely it is possible that names,

Can cause a broken soul.

Broken bones will eventually heal,

And the cast will one day, away peel.

You’ll be able to laugh, play and run,

Under the afternoon sun.

Broken souls will never heal,

There will be no cast to one day, away peel.

Broken souls are broken for life,

And will forever be filled with strife.

People speak of sticks and stones,

Causing broken bones.

People speak of names not causing pain,

But as I gaze at eternal rain,

I know a broken soul is extremely difficult to fix.
