Coast road's closed -

occasional wheel-wave
over that long foreshore of their approach,
unwinding from Holme village,
tarmac roar of 'here', engine
sigh, en passent, shifting by...

the stubborn, the ignorant,
or semi-off-roaders, locals
who know farm tracks lead somewhere.

Thrushes and robins
have an auditorium in diamonds;
chaffinches try trills a-flourish on each other;
blackbird flutes over 'cuck, cuck, cuck'
of pheasant's idle strut -
giant bees bumble in their UV VR.

Alexanders* throw up their camps
and watchtowers everywhere.

Oh, yes, the  plum trees stand
such graceful brides and grooms in white;

but green green; my love is green;
mince me in spring's great sap-machine.

Alexanders - a green flowering umbellifer (a plant in the parsley / carrot family) was introduced to this neck of the woods by the Romans and is very successful. In later summer its fat black seeds on dried stalks line the verges.
