Sun-filled grasses,
glowing so tender
maintain their edge,
enough of hard shadow
defining lines, spider tangles.

Aesthetic challenge
to approximate common vision,
ink-in gold-green light between
those thin curtain-walls,

but, delicate, expressive of the
slightest breeze,
each banner-blade resiling
replete with sunlight, busies
out of mind: -

photosynthesis
reversely engineered,
threads our breath.*

So any bright eyed signaler
frittering through April's theater
of twigs and blossom,
flitting with sun-filled wings,
keeps a constancy
surfaces must embellish,

all that featly dances
among spring,
jabbing, yanking
up worm and grubful
for gaping beaks.

.................

*Most scientific theorists run with the commonsense notion that photosynthesis came before aerobic respiration - which evolved in response to the oxygen. The chemical equations are 'reverses' of each other, but it is poetic license to say that aerobic respiration is the 'reverse engineering' of photosynthesis.
