It was only one day.
One day a year when she lost it. Maybe, her mother's birthday, but it would without a doubt be on that day. The day her mother died.
They had an important Titan test that day so Jinx couldn't skip out. She had to keep on going despite the occasion.
Kid had never seen her cry, even after being shot in the shoulder.
He looked at her through the glass of the waiting room. She was performing beautifully to the other Titans, but he knew she wasn't putting her 110% like she usually did.
And when she came out of the arena to the Titans congratulating her, saying she got every obstacle and battle tactic correct, she kept her head down because all the tears were welling up to the point of blurriness.
Someone spoke up from the group, "Jinx?" A pause. "Are you okay?"
Her pink head moved up slightly so across from her, Kid would see the welling up tears. By the time the first tear left her left eye they were in her apartment.
He removed his costume and she was in her pajamas (courtesy of Wally). Wally didn't say anything as she sobbed. He'd never heard her sob. She jammed the palms of her hands to her eyes to stop the tears.
Wally wrapped his arms around her, but she didn't melt against him like she usually did. It took her a while to realize he was hugging her and wrapped her arms around his waist. Jinx's sobs continued as she put here face in the crook of his neck.
"I didn't even know what was going to happen to her," the sentence being broken from her sobs. "I didn't even get to hear her last words, I didn't get to say goodbye."
Her sobs continued. It was breaking his heart. He held onto her tighter. Using his speed, he moved them to their bed. Wally was on his side and Jinx held onto him tighter, burying her face deeper into his neck.
Jinx's sobs became quieter and turned into little hiccups. Wally pushed away a little, placing his hand on the side of her face to push away her hair and tears.
"You ready to talk about it baby?"
She opened her slanted red eyes to look at his eyes.
"My mom died today."
He made a slightly confused face. She didn't get any calls this morning or when they were at the tower. Seeing his face she began to clear her statement.
"I mean, today is her death anniversary."
Wally's brows scrunched with sympathy and sadness. He kissed her wet cheek and moved close to her, rubbing her back soothingly.
"It was his fault," she began to ramble, "If he didn't-if he wasn't smoking she wouldn't have died."
Wally put two and two together, maybe her mother died of cancer - possibly lung cancer.
Her sobs racked her whole body as she began to shake and all she could do was hold onto him like her life depended on it.
