act 3, scene 3
fragile masculinity

SITTING in the wild grass that rose up to his stomach, jimin watched yoongi socialize with the creatures he called friends.

upon introduction, the five "friends" also had names that were predominantly clicking, tongue sounds. so, being the caring human he was, jimin gave them pronounceable names as he did yoongi.

of course, the strange older boy wanted to try to name them himself, but it didn't come out to well.

for example, yoongi wanted to name them things like: jack, justin, genie, moni, and—for some reason—j-dope. yoongi even went as far as to wanting to change jimin's name to christian.

but the five new creatures preferred jimin's names to yoongi's, and were now enjoying being called namjoon, seokjin, hoseok, taehyung, and jungkook.

earlier, hoseok and taehyung had strung magnolias in jimin's hair. the pretty pale pink and peach colors contrasted beautifully in jimin's black tendrils.

"you look really pretty min jiminie." taehyung smiled at his work. hoseok nodded wildly in agreement, giving a wide smile.

jimin felt dead inside.

"thanks." he shrugged, shifting his gaze back to yoongi who was gathering more fruit into a wood-woven basket. he felt like what he mostly did was watch yoongi whenever the he had the chance. the small, petite stature of the male drew him in like bees to flowers.

it suited him, too. yoongi was admittedly as pretty as a flower, as light as a carnation, as demanding of attention as a sunflower.

hoseok and taehyung soon abandoned him alone in the middle of the field. they ran off in giggles and loud laughter; taehyung chasing hoseok with something in his hand.

jimin felt like he was in an upside-down realm where the law of everything was absolute bullshit.

the air was tinged in a permanent pale, pink stain and held the faint scent of florals. dust of sparkles floated against the gravity and glinted even in areas with no light. the grass was hyper pigmented in different shades of light and dark greens, as were all the surrounding plants.

he was lost in thought about the world he'd entered and just how he got into such a mess.

"min jimin," jungkook entered his line of sight, crouching down so they were face to face.

"might as well change my birth certificate." jimin deadpanned with a dead look in his eyes. it was as if he was looking through the boy rather than at him.

"i don't know what that means, nor do i really care, but yoongi wanted me to check on you." jungkook put the statement very bluntly, but wore a smile on his face.

"i want to go home."

the sudden feeling of a sob began to accumulate in his chest, making it feel heavy. he willed himself not to tear up or allow his voice to waver. he wasn't much of a crier but everything with what has happened since meeting yoongi was taking a toll on him.

"are you an infant?" jungkook asked, eyes roaming all over jimin's reddening face.

"what?" the boy in question harshly rubbed at his eyes were a few tears began pool.

"only the infants do that," jungkook brought one of his fingers to catch a stray tear of jimin's.

and suddenly, jimin began to cry his eyes out. his sobs rattled in his chest and bounced off the trees of the surrounding area.

the noise came as a startle to the others, especially yoongi. said male quickly rises to where jimin sat, shoving jungkook back and giving him an accusing glare. "what the fuck did you do, you heathen? you made him cry." he pointed down at jimin.

the attention and pointing and embarrassment he felt at the situation only caused him to cry harder. he squeezed his eyes shut, bringing his knees up to his chest and burying his head in the space between.

"i don't understand what half of those words mean!" jungkook's anxious voice was barely heard over jimin's screams and hiccups.

"what did you do?" yoongi asked again, more demanding than the last time if that was even possible.

"i think i called him an infant?" even jungkook didn't know what he did to trigger this reaction from jimin. he couldn't recall saying or doing anything particularly rude or insulting, so he was deeply confused.

yoongi made clicking noise with his mouth, saying jungkook's true name, "that's the biggest insult to fragile masculinity after calling said species a female!"

"my masculinity isn't fragile," jimin yelled from between his own knees, "i just want to go home!" he realized how tragic this situation was, yelling at himself internally to 'shut the fuck up' and 'collect his sanity'.

yoongi scooped jimin up in his arms. the task wasn't as easy as he first suspected, feeling jimin's impressively built body in his hold.

with a grunt, he situated the boy the a better position in his grasp and held back a groan. "we'll see you later," yoongi's voice was strained as he tried his hardest to keep jimin in his arms.

the boy wasn't even particularly heavy; yoongi just kept skipping arm day.

jimin was still crying at this point, just more silently. he wanted to laugh in mania at how unbelievable the world seemed, but he knew that would throw everyone off and worsen the situation.

"alright, jiminie. everything is okay now," yoongi cooed in a way that should be condescending to jimin, but it only made him snuggle into the older's chest. somehow, he found the words comforting.

maybe he was an infant after all.
