CHAPTER 16 | Cursed by Being Trouble-Magnets

My heart pounded fiercely in my chest.

Sweat beaded my forehead as I continue to run through the woods towards the clearing. At some time, my legs would wobble as I run. They ache, and it was mostly caused by some deep cuts from protruding branches or twigs. The wolves sounded behind me. Their continuous clashing of their teeth sounded as they try to bite anything that comes near contact.

The trees surrounding me disappeared and were replaced by a glade of grass. I scanned the whole place, desperately searching for the house. A few distance away stood the house with the porch light lit brightly. I quickly sprinted towards my target just before the wolves pounced on me. The wolves tumbled across the grass, disappointed they have caught nothing.

I ran across the field swiftly. My feet crushed flowers and a few bugs on the way. The wolves growled behind me as they grew more aggressive because their target wasn't in their reach for a while.

Soon, I have reached the gate. It was one of those typical wooden gates with wooden picketed fences surrounding the perimeter. It may not have a high sense of security, but it does give a country and homelike feeling. I quickly unlatched the gate and ran inside while locking it as Sean instructed. I jumped onto the wooden porch and straight towards the door. I twisted the brass knob to open it, but instead it was locked. I desperately jiggled the knob and attempted to kick the door, but nothing worked.

"Really, Sean? You tell me get into safety yet you lock the door to safety!"

I looked behind me to see the wolves dashing towards me. They haven't reached the gate but they have soon yet to. I quickly looked for an alternative entrance. I looked around the whole patio for an open entrance to the house. I soon spotted an open window pane near the right corner of the house. I wasted no time and jumped over the porch and onto the grass. I dashed towards the window pane and lifted the glass upwards. I hoisted myself onto the ledge and jumped inside, landing on a soft couch. I was in the living area of the house.

I let my eyes adjust to the darkness of the room. The fireplace in front of the sofa was dimly lit which allowed minimal light in the living room. I hastily turned towards the window and tried to pull the window glass downwards, but it was rooted in place. The wolves just jumped over the low fence and were now on the yard. They sniffed the atmosphere looking for a scent of mine. They walked towards the porch and to the door. They continued to sniff which gave me a small amount of time to force the window closed. Just when I thought the glass was about to budge, the wolves' heads snapped towards me. They seemingly grinned, jackpot. Hastily, the wolves ran towards the open window.

Reflexively, I kicked the first wolf that appeared at the window. The blow was hard enough to send it a few feet away, whimpering in pain. While I was distracted with the first wolf, the second wolf sunk its teeth on my right arm drawing blood. I shrieked in agony and searched for a weapon nearby. Lying on the coffee table were stacks of paper and scissors.

I took the scissors with my free hand and did something I wish not to have done. I let the scissors sunk into the wolf's head, the blood oozing out staining the scissors and my hand with bright red blood. I felt extremely sick to the stomach with the sight of blood. The injured wolf bawled in pain as I watch the light of life slowly diminish in its eyes. I knew it was over as the body fell limped, and I slowly lowered it of the window sill.

I pulled the sill down to a close and fell on the sofa with a sigh. In less than twelve hours since I have awoken from a short coma, I have gotten lost in the woods, have been chased for yards by wolves, and have terminated one. At that point did I realize that Sean was still out there.
