~ The next 3 days ~

The sun was about to rise. Time for another meeting. I ran through the rooftops, jumping over chimneys and wind vanes. Behind me, I could hear the soft growling coming from Alice, who was following me through the shadows. The sky was being painted a scarlet red, while I huffed and jumped multiple buildings trying to get to the meeting place. Under the bridge.

Once I got there, everyone but Lisa and Lois was there. Which was weird, they were never late. Sure we've had moments when we would be a minute late to these things. Sometimes we don't appear at all until the next day. But the both of them were the ones that have been hunters the longest. This was practically a routine for them for the last 16 years.

A minute later. The sun has risen, the sky was now it's normal sky blue color. But Death was no where to be seen either. He would usually be here by now. "Ya' think he went on vacation or somethin'?" Asks Owl. But we all doubted it, does he even get sleep. With people dying 24/7 in his sector? "Maybe he got held up." Stated Farah. Who was currently hiding behind Leon from the other hunters. She looked less ghostly than yesterday, which was good.

"No." A voice called behind us. We all turned our heads to see Lisa, holding onto her arm, black substances leaking out of it. Those were the souls she's collected. When we get injured, our souls use that injury as an exit from our body. But being a hunter, your body is toughened, made to withstand lethal attacks from demons. "What happened?" Alesi asked. He may not look it, but he does show concern and respect to those he deems strong and worthy. Lisa being one of them, we all considered her strong.

All Alesi got as an answer was a grunt of pain. She then started to talk about this huge demon that took on both her and Lois. At once. 2 of our strongest hunters were extremely damaged. "Lois has faded." She said, looking down. We all did, fading from lack of souls was one thing. But to fade from battle? That was nearly impossible. And almost as painful as dying again. For as when you fade from lack of souls, you just...... fade. Nothing physically hurts you.

"You know where D is?" Leon asks. 'D' was a nickname we gave Death when we were in public. Most of us could be seen by normal humans, so we made up a codename for Death instead of calling him 'Death' in the middle of a restaurant. Lisa looked away, trying not to meet our eyes. But seeing as she was on the floor, cradling her arm, she couldn't avoid all of us. She sighed and motioned for us to sit down.

"D is not on vacation. He's missing." This statement was followed by screams of whats and hows. How can 'death' be missing? Lisa just waits for everyone to calm down before explaining that since yesterday's meeting, no one in the sector has died. No matter how fatal the injury or how close to dying he or she is. No one has died. A man shot in the heart miraculously survived 5 hours after the meeting. A woman with cancer that was only given a few more hours of living has not yet died. The people are calling it 'judgement day'. The day when God descends from above and will judge the living and the dead.

After that explanation, we were left silent and confused. D was the one that decided the next hunter. He's the one that delivers the dead to the afterlife. He's the one that supervises this sector. Without him, this sector will fall into chaos. With every life comes death. We all knew this. Everyone had mixed reactions to this. Owl was close to fainting. Farah actually fainted. Leon was mumbling under his breath. Alesi stood so still, you would think he was dead. Howl was screaming out all the curses he knew and more colorful language that he made up which put the latter to shame. Jasper was pacing around in circles speaking so fast I couldn't understand a thing he said. And Carp was on the floor, looking lifeless and looking like the world had ended and that he had no purpose. I was looking at Lisa in disbelief, hoping she would jump up and say 'surprise!', but she didn't.

The news hit us hard, even though the sun just rose, it felt like all darkness was upon us. Screaming at us to give up. But a scream of agony interrupted our mourning when we saw Lisa slowly but surely fading away. The wound on her arm that had been leaking of souls has now taken affect and is draining her souls away. Little by little, Lisa faded right in front of our eyes. Leaving nothing but the dagger and gun she had received from death as something to kill demons with. The last thing we saw from her was the bright scarlet hair she had, which was tainted black from the souls dripping from her arm. The last thing we heard from her were her screams that echoed over and over in my head.

"Lisa!!" Our screams covered the neighborhood. This was a problem.

     Death is gone.
     No one is dying.
     Lisa just died.
     Lois is dead.
     Without death........
What will happen to this sector?
