he was hiding in plain sight,
it took me a while to find him.
probably the only person
who didn't make me feel like nothing.
he isn't tall or handsome,
he doesn't play football or party a lot.
you'll find him at the back of the room,
his nose dug in a book.
you'd find him sitting alone at the lunch table,
oblivious to everything as he listens to Bowie.
in hallways full of wolves waiting to devour,
he came as the whisperer and drove them away.
don't be fooled by his ability to blend,
he only chooses to because if he didn't
he'd shine and everybody will bask in his glow.
in a world full of people who betrayed,
he took my hand and led me out.
now as I sit, thinking about the last words to say to him,
my mind keeps wondering what could've been.-s
