Chapter 22

Lily Hope Lovegood

River shakes me awake. I vaguely remember going to sleep on Fox at around 7:00. "What time is it?" I ask, feeling more awake than I was at 6.

"12:00," River answers.

"I've been asleep for five hours?" I ask, realization dawning on me.

"Yep," Fox answers this time.

"So... what do y'all want to do?"

"We each should tell someone the passwords to our common rooms, in case something goes wrong," I say. "I'll tell Ravenclaw to River, she'll tell Hufflepuff to Louis, Louis will tell Gryffindor to Fox, and Fox will tell Slytherin to me."

"Alohamora," I tell River.

"Pureblood," Fox says to me. He blushes slightly, embarrassed.

"Don't worry, you didn't choose the password," I tell him.

"Thanks," he says and squeezes my hand.

"So is this meeting adjourned?" I ask. 

"Not quite," says Louis.

"What?"

"You forgot... FOOD!!!" He starts shoving some in his face.

River just rolls her eyes and walks out the door. I follow, walking to the Ravenclaw common room. I walk in to see one person in the common room.

Newt looks up and sees me. "Oh, good. You're here." He says, standing up. "I have to show you something."

"What?" I ask as he grabs my hand and leads me to a corner with a box in it. He lets go and I look in.

"What is it?"

"A hedgehog."

"Cute," I say, taking Lumos out of my pocket so she doesn't suffocate. "Can I hold it?"

"Him. Yes. His name is Dexter. Can I?" Newt asks.

"Sure," I say, giving him Lumos.

He pets her, and she purrs. 

The little hedgehog rolls around in my hands. I sit down on a couch and he does too. 

"So where did you get him from?" I ask.

He lowers his voice. "The forbidden forest. I found him when he was a baby, and I just couldn't leave him there. His mum was nowhere around, and I watched him struggle for an hour."

"Awww," I say. we trade animals back. "What are you doing for the rest of the day?"

"Nothing really, why?"

"Wanna go swimming?"

"Sure," he says and we run upstairs to change into our bathing suits. I change into my bright yellow and aqua blue bathing suit and am back downstairs in less than two minutes with a towel.

"Ready?" I ask when he comes down.

He nods.

"Let's go!"

We get to the black lake and I throw down my towel then jump off the dock and dive into the lake. Newt follows. 

"So what's up, Ravenclaw buddy?" I ask him.

"Oh, nothing much. The same as usual. My parents wish I didn't exist, I have no fr-"

I cut him off, saying, "Don't say that. I'm your friend. Why don't your parents like you?" I ask.

He smiles. "Thanks. They-they wanted a girl, and they wanted me to be Gryffindor, but I'm in Ravenclaw, a failure, and they don't want to see me again." I see a tear roll down his cheek. I pull him into a hug, which was kind of hard in the water.

"Don't worry, I'm your friend."
