It had been three weeks since Miles and I fought, the whole no smoking thing was driving me up the wall, and I couldn't stand being in his class any longer. Derek was forcing me to come into work, not that he knew why I couldn't, but Jay promised to give me easy stuff to work on, unfortunately, we all had to meet in Dereks office today and I was not looking forward to it. I was sitting in my tahoe, putting off the inevitable as long as possible, I had a weird feeling about today and I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was, of course no one ever feels good about working for Derek. I eventually got out of the car, throwing a drawstring backpack on my back, a duffel bag over my shoulder, and placing a water bottle filled with church wine (basically it has like 0.5% alcohol content) It didn't do much, but at least took the edge off the intensity of things. My cast was finally gone, my nose was healed, but the constant bloated feeling left me feeling a little worse for wear. I walked into the building and there was no security, which meant we where meeting on the main floor, with all the empty crates. I dropped my bags off in my office downstairs, before meeting everyone on the main floor. I took my place between two rows of creates, right in the alleyway and waited for instruction. This was Dereks way of getting a salute as he walked in, since he knew better than to ask for an actual one, not even the newbies had that much respect for him. Eventually Derek walked in and sat down at the table.
"Apologizes everyone, I had something I had to take care of. I wasn't more than 200 feet from Derek and the thought alone made me naseous, not that he knew where I was , since the creates left a shadow towering over everyone. Derek opened his mouth to give us orders, but the doors suddenly burst open and two guys stormed in dragging a man stumbling over his own two feet. He was too far away to make out any features, but I felt sorry for him, knowing his fate wasn't good and he wouldn't be walking out of here, carried out in a body bag? Most likely.
"Sorry to interrupt boss, but we found an intruder, caught him snooping around the basement." One of the men said, more like yelled, at Derek.
"No problem, bring him to me." The men dragged the guy down the aisle that the rows of crates created. Derek stopped just ten feet to my left and I took a step back, praying that he didn't see me, and keeping my eyes locked on him, watching his every move. Derek can be predictable, but you have to know how he moves, to guess his next move, which is exactly what I was doing. The two guys stopped directly in front of me, dropping the guy on the floor in a heap before stepping back. "Get up." Derek hissed. The man scrambled to his feet and my breath caught in my throat and my heart stopped.
"Miles." His name slipped passed my lips before the thought itself even registered in my mind and my hands flew over my mouth, hoping no one had heard. Things won't be easy for him, but knowing me would only make them a hell of a lot worse. Derek slowly turned around and looked at me, eyebrows raised.
"You know him?" I put up a strong, brave front and nodded.
"Yes I do, not that its any of your damn bussiness." he chuckled.
"And here all this time I thought you were picturing me naked, again." My stomach lurched at the thought.
"The only person that pictures you naked is yourself and even then its only in your fantasies, since not even your mirror can keep in together at the sight." I stated matter of factly. There were a couple of giggles throughout the wherehouse and a smug grin spread across my face. Derek gave me a firm look before slowly turning back towads Miles.
"And do you know her?" He asked and I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah she's my..." my eyes widened and I shook my head, so he trailed off at the end.
"She's your what?"
"I'm his student. He's my English teacher." Derek smirked.
"Honey I know I'm not the youngest man you've ever met, but it hasn't been that long since I've been in school, you don't call your teachers by their first name." I smirked.
