Someone to blame

I slowly got up out of bed, and made my way to the door. I knew Ryan heard me get up every night, and it surprised me he never said anything, yet he never knew I left the house.
One day I had found a bundle of plants stems and leaves tied together on the table. It turned out to be sage Ryan had left lying around, and it led me to his stash and a book. This book was the definition of ex machina as it told me exactly how the mystical plant worked. I opened all the doors in the house and then burned it, and somehow it would make it to where Ryan couldn't hear anything outside of his room.
This allowed me to sneak out every night, because sure, Ryan might be okay with me wandering the house, but going outside, hell no.
I grabbed my coat and ran out. I was running a little late, as I was actually tired and fell asleep for a while. I sped through branches and leaves hoping he didn't assume the worst or something.
Finally I reached our spot. "Hello? You here?"
   No response.
"Come on. I ran here. That was physical activity. Ryan has me training en-"
Suddenly two hands were holding my arms behind me. I twisted free, and lunged at the person in one movement. I had both their arms pinned to the ground, as I sat on top of them.
He just laughed slightly. "You've gotten stronger."
I hit him lightly on his chest as I let his arms go. "Finally Ryan's training is-"
He sat up quickly, grabbing my wrists, looking me dead in the eye. "Look doll, could you not say his name?"
"Could you not scare me?" I asked.
He looked off to the side, then let go of my wrists. "Yeah, sorry. But you do need to be prepared for when-"
"We attack him. I know. I need to be ready for anything." I almost added you guys sound so alike, but decided against it.
"Sorry, I just want you safe babe. He may seem harmless, but in a fight he is cunning, and manipulative. Even if you are stronger, he'll figure you out and then use it all against you. Especially mental weaknesses. Which again I really think we should go over some ways to avoid his mind games and such."
"No Brendon I promise you, I'll be fine." I just hope you'll remember that.
"How can you be so sure? Because you've been training with him? That's exactly the thing, he'll know your strategy as well as you know his. That rules out your physical attacks for doing real damage, you need to know how to fight him mentally."
"Brendon. Listen to me." I placed my hands on the sides of his face, looking him in the eyes. "I am going to be fine. I know exactly where to hit him, the most painful spot, not physically, mentally. He'll never see it coming." I'm not sure you will either.
"You're sure?" he asked, placing his hands on top of mine.
   "One hundred percent." I smiled.
"Okay. Sorry. You know I just worry about you, Y/N."
"I know." I hugged him. "I love you."
   "I love you too."

I walked into the dark living room slowly. Though I had the sage, I didn't always trust it. But it making sure Ryan never hearing me leave the house didn't stop him from getting up and seeing I'd left the house.
I had only taken two steps when the lights flicked on, revealing Ryan leaning against the staircase, twirling the still smoking bundle inbetween his fingers.
"Mm don't you love the smell of burning sage?" he smirked.
"Depends. I mean normal sage, not so much, but I've heard of this scented version that is just lovely."
   "Y/N."
"I heard they have it in pumpkin spice."
   "Y/N."
"Oh, right duh, it's probably on sold in Fall." I continued. "Wanna watch some TV?" I walked over and picked up the remote.
  "Y/N!"
"Oh come on." I clicked on the screen. "I'm sure we can find som-" I looked at the screen to see a news story.
'Y/N L/N now missing for exactly two months.' The screen read.
"Friends and family held a candle lighting ceremony, as a way, not of saying she is gone, but as her friend, F/N, put it, a beacon for her to follow home. We spoke with some of the attendies."
F/N came on the screen. "She is my best friend, my sister, and closer to me than my real family, and I can just feel she's still out there. Y/N if you're watching this, come home. Please. I know you love your fantasy worlds, but you're a huge part of my world, I need you back here with me."
I felt tears escape my eyes. Then I was shocked who came on the screen next. It was Josh Dun.
"I only met her once, but she was just a ball of sunshine. She deserves to be back at home with all these people who love and care for her. Can you just turn the camera?" The camera turned. There was a huge crowd of people, none looking at Josh, but a screen, with me on it. "If anyone watching can bring her back to this group of people that are all here wanting her home safe, please I'm begging you to do so."
I was full on crying now. The screen was now showing the news desk again. "It is rumored that infamous escaped murderer Brendon Urie is to blame for the girl's disappearance as they have been seen together-" The TV flicked off.
I hadn't noticed Ryan had taken the remote from my hand, and had pressed the power button. He put it down on the table and put his arm around my shoulder, and started guiding me toward the stairs.
"Come on, I think it's time to call it a night. We can talk about the sage in the morning."
The rumors were right. Someone was to blame for my disappearance, but it wasn't Brendon. It was someone much worse, because he made you feel so safe, loved, and yet inferior. And they had no idea about him. His name was Ryan Ross.
