Birds Are Just Hallow Words

"You're up early today." I said as Y/N walked down the stairs. "I was just starting to make pancakes."
"Mm that sounds great." She said as she propped herself up on to the counter, to where she sat next to all the ingredients and me.
I sat down the pan I had been holding and walked over to her, placing my hands on the counter on either side of her. I leaned in slowly and left a soft kiss on her lips.
"What was that for?" She asked with a smile.
"It was for my beatiful girl." She rolled her eyes. "Too cheesy?"
She nodded. "But okay, it was for me but why did I deserve it?"
"You didn't. Just thought I'd make myself seem cute." I smiled.
She laughed. "That makes more sense. Oh and it worked by the way."
"Good to know." I said and walked back over to the ingredients. "Oh, by the way, I'm having an old friend of mine over today, so you might want to go get dressed."
"A friend? Over?" She asked in a light tone, with her brow furrowed, her legs still kicking back and forth cutely, as she sat.
"Yeah. Haven't seen him in a couple years. I want you to meet him." I said simply, while putting some of the eggs into the mixture.
She was quiet for a second as she stared at the ground. Then spoke again. "What's he like?"
"Cool. Laid back. He's kind of a free spirit as well, though he does have a wife, Cassie. Nice girl."
She hummed in response. "Sounds like a nice guy."
"He is. So much so I wonder why he is still friends with me. Sure he had his issues back then but he overcame them, he should have overcame me too." I rambled, not looking up from the bowl of ingredients.
It was quiet for a second then I heard her hop down from the counter.
"Ryan." She spoke softly. I still didn't look up. I felt her gently put one hand on my shoulder and one on the opposite side of my face. "Hey, hey. Ryan, look at me." I finally did, and she gave me a sad smile. "Ryan you-"
"Y/N, the only words that should come out of your mouth to complete that sentence should only be able to describe something, because the actual something is so horrible it's unspeakable. And if they aren't then your lying, lying to me and yourself."
Her hands went down my arms to my own. She turned me toward her, and then placed them on either side of my face.
"Okay. Being one hundred percent honest, you have your bad moments. Yet being around you these past few months I've seen you also have so many good ones. Everyone does. Even you."
I took a breath and placed one of my hands on top of hers. "No. That is just your influence on me...or what is left of it. The way I act around you is because it's you. Anyone else and it's different."
She shook her head. "I remember when you talked to and that first time in high school. You were asking me out. I thought you were one of those guys when I had seen you around, one that was rude and inconsiderate, but then you talk to me. Immiediately I saw you had good in you. Everyone has good and bad in them, what matters is which we let control our actions. You've been chosing good."
"You got that from a book."
"Maybe a little, but besides the point."
"Or maybe I've just influenced you enough to where you think I am good." That's exactly what happened.
"Do you really believe that?" She asked. I know that.
"I believe in many things, including never to rule out any possibilities until I am completely sure it's not possible."
"You got that from a tv show." She smiled.
"Maybe a little."

Y/N went up to get dressed after we ate the pancakes. I was sitting on a barstool in the kitchen when she came down. She looked amazing, as always, but I knew soon she wouldn't have that glow around her. I guess I was just enjoying it for one of the last times.
"Hey Ross?" She said from the second step.
"Huh?"
"You're starring." She smirked.
I just laughed a little. She walked down the last two steps and that's when there was crash, something shattering.
I looked to see something had flown through the window. The something, I saw as it got closer, was a wooden bird. It then made it's way to Y/N, flying in a circle around her, before flying towards me.
I raised my hand and used magic to stop it right in it's tracks. Then I split it up it splinters, and for a second I just let them sit in the air but then I saw Y/N's face.
She had seemed so intrigued by the bird, and the look on her face as it sat there in bits in pieces showed she was nothing less than devastated. So I pulled the splintered bits back together but this time to form a wooden rose.
"Oh my God that's so pretty." She said as she came up to me.
"Perfect for you then." I smiled, and handed her the rose. She wrapped her arms around my neck, having to jump a little, and gave me a hug. I returned it, making a circle motion with my hand on her back while doing so.
I did enjoy her reaction to the wooden flower, but I also only did it to distract her from looking down. The bird had been carrying a note. I knew what the note was about, and exactly who it was from.
Then the doorbell rang. Y/N's head shot up with a smile. "He's here."
"As promised." I replied. I kissed the top of her head and unwrapped my arms from around her. Then I made my way to the door, Y/N following close behind me.
I opened it up and greeted him with a smile. "Hey man, long time. Good to finally see you." He greeted as he hugged.
"Good to see you again too. I missed you." I returned both the greeting and hug. As I stepped to the side his eyes widened as they fell on Y/N.
"This must be the special girl I'm always hearing about." He held out his hand for hers. Y/N looked to me, as if for approval. I nodded for her to go on, and so she did. He bowed down slightly and kissed her hand, then stood up. "Even prettier than Ryan described."
Any other person than him and their hand and tongue would have been cut off by now, but I knew him. This was the way of his pack, to be classy and have proper etiquette. Also he was not only a good friend of mine but my only real one, he would never do that to me. Not to mention that I would have to trust him because he is going to be protecting Y/N should she need that extra protection when we go to fight Brendon. Either way I could see that he was nothing more than a new stranger to her and she would never fall for him.
"Y/N meet-" I begin.
"Jon Walker." She interrupts, smiling.
"You know him from somewhere?" I ask.
"Oh, only just a huge world-wide known band that you were a part of too." She smirked.
"Oh. Right. Well Jon you know Y/N too so... Come on in though we've got a lot to talk about."
He walked in and took a seat on the couch, Y/N following to the one across from his. I however went for the kitchen.
"I'm gonna make us some drinks." I announced. They both nodded and then somehow immiediately engrossed themselves in conversation. This was great though as it distracted Y/N from noticing me picking up the note the bird left behind. I quickly stuffed it into my pocket and went to get some drinks.

We had all made some pretty good conversation and Y/N really seemed to like Jon. This was a good thing because she was going to have to trust him.
"So, Y/N, I brought Jon over for a reason." She was sitting just next to me on the couch. I took her hand in mine. "A while ago I told you about attacking Brendon, well we can't put it off any longer. He sent a note, it came with that bird."
"B-Brendon sent that bird?" She stuttered.
"Yeah." I pulled the note from my pocket, and gave it to her.
"This is it. No more games, just one last fight. Meet me in the forest, Y/N will know where, so you have to bring her find me. You have three hours." She read the note aloud.
"Make that two hours now." I corrected. She didn't take her eyes from the note. I wrapped my arm around her and rubbed her arm with my hand. "Hey it's going to be okay."
She sighed and looked up to me. "Yeah." She said softly. I didn't think she really believed it'd be okay, but she said it more as an 'it's gonna happen anyway'.
"Jon, well, he's going to protect you, incase you need it." I said. "He's got..abilities."
"Abilities?"
"Perhaps it'd be best if he just shows you." I turned to Jon and he nodded.
He stepped out into some free space. He closed his eyes and took a breath. When he opened them again they were an orange color. That's when the transformation began. Soon he was on all fours and covered in fur.
"He-he's a wolf." Y/N stuttered. Jon walked up to her slowly, then stood there. She reached out her hand, and he put his head underneath it. She then petted him, running her fingers through his fur. He tilted his head a little so his ear was upwards. She scratched behind it and he closed his orange eyes.
I would have stopped it at this point but the smile that was on Y/N's face made me stay put. I had almost forgotten how much she loved animals.
Then Jon put his paw up on the couch next to her and nodded his head behind him, toward the back door. Y/N nodded her head 'yes' and he took off, her following.
I knew we had a time limit, and I had to get her geared up, but I thought I could give her twenty minutes or so while I get everything together.
I walked to the back door to see them wrestling around, rolling in the grass. She looked so happy. I stood there for a couple minutes but then went to gather everything up.
