"Y/N come on!" Ryan called from the back door.
I sighed and knelt next to Jon. "Time to go in." I said petting his head. He gave a whimper and nudged his head into my arm. I smiled. "I know." I stood up and walked up to the door where Ryan was standing.
He took my hand in his and led me to the training room. He stood me in the center of the room, while he went to the corner and picked something up.
As he turned around I could see it was a black jacket. It was longer, and reminded me of the green military looking ones girls would wear, but something told me he wasn't giving it to me to make a fashion statement.
He held it open and I put my arm out. As I slipped into it, I could feel the weight already, there were weapons in the coat. He pulled two strings that were a little bit above my waist, and the jacket tightened around me. He took the two strings and tied them together. The jacket became fitting to me, and unlike most extra layers it felt like I could move freely in it.
He pulled out one side, then reached into the jacket and when his hand came back out there was a metal throwing dagger in it. "There's six. Three on each side." Then he pulled on the jacket again and put it back.
He walked over to the staffs and picked out mine. Then he walked behind me and I could feel it against my back but not on my skin. There must be a pocket for it.
He then walked back in front of me, and tugged on the collar. "Fit good?" He asked.
"Very."
"Perfect." He looked content while he said it, but the look was gone quickly. "Y/N, this fight is going to be more intense than any before, the stakes are even more insane, I don't exactly know what the result will be."
"I know. Neither do I, but have hope. If it's worth fighting for, you have to believe in it."
"Y/N, you sound like a disney princess." He laughed slightly.
"Okay, I can be a bit of a cheese ball too." I smiled.
He took a breath. "Well, I do believe in you, and I'll just hope that's enough."
"Well for your pessimistic attitude, that was pretty optimistic."
"See? Progress." He smiled. His hands had never left the jacket collar. It was quiet for a second, then his lips were on mine. He pulled me close by the collar, and I placed my hands on his chest.
There was something about this kiss, it was more intense than any other. I knew why as I was kissing back just as he was. As though it would be the last time.
God, when did my life become so cheesy?
He pulled away. "We'll continue this after, okay?" He smiled.
I nodded. Then he pulled something out of his pocket. He took my hand and held it open, then placed something in it. I looked dowm to see a necklace with a purple crystal heart charm.
"It's a protection charm, a very specific one. It'll protect you from anyone trying to get in your head." He put my hair behind my ear.
"Will you put it on?" I asked, handing him the jewelry.
He nodded and I spun. He latched the chain around my neck and pulled my hair from underneath it. Then I turned back around.
It took a second but then it hit me. If this is repelling anything from interfering with my thoughts, that means he really hasn't put a spell on me. I am genuinely feeling these things.
I put my arms around his neck and kissed him again.
He laughed a little. "What about picking it up later?" He asked.
"Sorry, I needed a little more to hold me over." I smiled.
After that we went out and got Jon. Somehow, after Ryan convincing me it was okay, I ended up riding on Jon's back. At first I thought I was going to break him but he didn't even seem to notice I was there.
I told them the directions. It felt horrible to be showing them the way to the place I'd go to escape Ryan, but that's the way Brendon wanted it...I guess.
We arrived with eight minutes to spare. "Alright, Bren. You can get your ass out here now." Ryan said loudly.
Brendon didn't appear. Jon's head did snap to the left though. I looked too, there was nothing but trees. Ryan didn't seem to notice.
"What is it? What do you hear?" I asked him, leaning close to his hear, and scratching his head.
"I was starting to worry you'd never show." Brendon had appeared in front of us. The way he spoke made it feel as though there was a bag of rocks at the bottom of my stomache. It didn't sound like him, and it scared me.
"How could I resist a chance to humiliate you again?" Ryan retorted.
Brendon gave a sarcastic smile but as it faded his eyes met mine. I missed them, staring into them, getting lost in them, but now it's like they were empty. It only furthered there feeling in my stomache.
"Surprised you actually brought her." He said, suddenly turning back to Ryan. It was crystal clear then, that there was huge wedge between us now.
Ryan smirked at this. "Of course, I brought, Y/N." He said, putting emphasis on the fact that I wasn't just 'her'.
I smiled a little at this, and I think Brendon noticed.
Ryan turned to me and held out his hand. I took it and stepped off of Jon's back. "I would have brought her whether you said to or not. It was always the plan."
I then took my staff from behind me and held it at the ready. I looked at Brendon and he just raised an eyebrow. He looked like he was about to laugh.
I ran up to him, and swung. He blocked it with his forearm. I took a swing for his legs but he once again blocked me, but this time with his foot.
He kicked the staff up, then grabbed the ends, spinning me around, holding the metal pole at the front of my neck, and pulling me against him. I wrapped my hands around it and kicked over him. The tables had turned, but not for very long.
He somehow slipped out from my hold and turned towards me. We were both just pushing the staff towards each other at that point.
"Doll, you know how this is going to end. I helped train you after all." He smirked. Shit. Ryan.
I could see his look, it simply screamed 'What the fucking hell did you just fuckin say?'. Honestly the most pleasant expression I'd ever seen.
I snapped back to Brendon, looking him in the eye. "Well maybe I should train you. Confidence is a one way ticket to your own downfall."
I jerked the staff to the side, and he went flying to the side. I looked to him on the ground, and it felt like a thorn had been stuck in my heart. What the hell am I doing?
I felt a hand clamp down around my wrist, and drag me away. I looked up to see Ryan. He stopped a little ways away from where we were. I could hear a growl in the distance followed by a series of barks.
He flung me as he let go of my wrist. "He's been training you?!?" He shouted. Shit.
"He used to!" I tried to make it seem okay, but I knew I was screwed.
He looked pissed at first but then he just started laughing, hysterically.
"What?" I asked.
He stepped up to me, and grazed the side of my face with the back of his hand. "You learn so quickly."
"Ryan I swear to fucking God, what the hell are you talking about?!" I swatted his hand away.
He had this grin and it scared me. "I told you I'd influence you."
"Stop your bullshit and tell me what the hell is going on!"
That's when he closed his eyes and then two wings came from behind him, except, they weren't white. They were pitch black. He stepped towards me, with a twisted smile on his face and took my hand.
There was a rush of wind behind me. I didn't want to look, I knew I had them too. I ripped my hand from his.
"Y-you..." I turned to see Brendon standing behind us. He had the most hurt look on his face. He avoided my eyes.
"Brendon..." I choked out.
His eyes then landed on Ryan. "You did this!" He shouted. "You took away that happy ending!"
Happy ending?
Suddenly two wings came from Brendon. His were white...he was an angel.
"No, I simply ensured mine." Ryan smirked.
With this Brendon tackled him. Brendon's an angel now...and I am...
I felt like falling to the ground and then having it swallow me up into earth.
Brendon lifted Ryan off the ground and slammed his back against a tree, then gave him a right hook before dropping him onto the uneven tree roots below.
"Y/N." He spoke, turning to me.
"What 'happy ending'?" I blurted out.
"Ours. I became an angel, and I knew you were one too. Once I'd saved you I figured we could get a house out away from town, but still close enough to visit, and we could just live happily...but I guess it was just a dream of mine." He finished, looking at the ground.
"Brendon." I ran up and threw my arms around him. He hugged me back.
"I missed you." He spoke into neck.
I pulled away slightly and looked at him. It was like it was the first time I was seeing him since before he was accused of murder. Back when everything was happy and perfect. "God, how I missed you too." I said and burried my head in his chest.
Then suddenly he was ripped from my grasp. I looked to see him being flown through the air up to a tree where the branches then suddenly coiled around his neck.
"Brendon!" I shouted and went to run to the tree, but two arms wrapped around my torso and I was spun the other way. I kicked back and forth but it made no difference.
"Y/N stop." Ryan said, putting me down. His back was facing Brendon while I was left to watch him struggle.
"No! This is cruel!" I was so blind to not realize that this would happen in a fight between these two.
In my mind I had imagined me fake fighting Brendon, him thinking it was real, but suddenly turning on Ryan. That was the plan but now I saw I could fight neither. At least not to the extent they want to fight each other.
"No! I can't do that! I can't fight him like you wanted me to!" I shouted.
"Y/N! Your win-!" Brendon yelled, only to be cut off by tree branches.
"Brendon!" I looked to my wings, they were fading to a lighter shade.
Ryan put his hands on the sides of my face. "Look at me. He's deactivated the charm." He reached down to the necklace and held the charm. The crystal heart's purple color glew and shone through the cracks in his fingers. "He was messing with your mind, Y/N." He said letting the necklace go.
Then all I could see was Ryan, or at least until I noticed Brendon running up behind him.
"Ryan, look out!" I yelled, grabbed his wrists and pulled him foward just as Brendon lunged for him. He missed and fell to the ground.
"Y/N he's lying to you." He said with a hoarse voice from the fall knocking the wind out of him.
"So desperate, you'll say anything." Ryan sneered, walking over to him lying on the ground.
"Funny, I could have sworn you were talking about yourself." Brendon smirked, trying to stand up, but Ryan kicked him back down half way up.
"Ryan..." I said gently, placing my hand on his upper arm.
He looked over to me. I want to say I saw something, anything, in him, but all I got was emptiness.
That's when I noticed Brendon had stood up and before I knew what was happening, gave Ryan a right hook, sending him backwards. In seconds Brendon was being thrown into the air and back onto the ground.
I heard a whisper from behind me. "Y/N!"
I turned to see, and at this point I wasn't surprised, Spencer Smith. Not how I wanted a panic! reunion to go.
There was a scratch that ran from his forehead down over his eye to his cheek. The bottom on one of his pant legs had been ripped up the side.
"Come on. I was told to get you out of here and that's what I plan on doing." He held out his hand.
I eyed his hand. "And who told you that?"
"Brendon. He wants to save you. He told me you could be under some mind tricks, but he hoped you'd love him enough to see past them."
"He thinks I love him still? Even after everything?" It was like a battle in my mind, like I was two different people. One version of me wanted Ryan and the other Brendon. I guess it was down to which version was stronger.
"He hopes. No scratch that. He wishes on every last star that you do, because it's very obvious that he would do anything for you. Honestly even him just talking about you, he seemed the happiest he'd been in too long of a time. You are his world, and if he loses you, I can't imagine what he'd do. Actually I can, but I don't want to. He talks all about saving you, but if you came with me, you'd be saving him."
I looked back to Brendon and Ryan. I could save either of them if I wanted to if you put it in that sense. Question is which one would I want to save?
