The First Encounter

"Wesley! How's school? Balita ko ay malapit na daw matapos ang first semester."

Ibinaling ko ang paningin kay mama mula sa laptop ko saka ngumiti.

"We've been doing a lot of performance tasks and of course, a few paperworks but I'll survive, ma."

"It's good to hear na sineseryoso mo ang pag aaral mo. I'm proud of you, son."

Natatawang lumapit ako kay mama at yumakap sa bewang nito. Being the only child that I was and having no father to take care of us, halos ako na rin ang nakatuwang ni mama.

"So.. is there any girl? You've been having this goofy smile on your face whenever you're looking at your phone. Mag-kakaroon na ba ako ng daughter-in-law?"

Nanlaki ang mata ko saka biglang napabitaw kay mama.

"What are you talking about, ma?"

"Hmm. My baby is a big boy na. I wanna cry. Don't play with girls feelings na ha? It's time for you to be serious, anak. Mag-commit ka na!"

"Seriously, ma. You sound like you want me to be married na."

"Of course not. Hanggang girlfriend lang muna. And don't you ever think of getting your girl pregnant, okay? I still don't wanna see little Wesleys running around the house."

Napailing na lang ako sa tinatakbo ng usapan namin ni mama. She's my mother so she's aware of my fair share of girls before. Napangiti na naman ako when a sudden thought entered my mind.

Ibinaba ko muna ang cellphone ko sa study table ko matapos ang isang COC war. Kanina pa nagb-blink ang LED nito, palibhasa ay 13% na lang ang battery level. Shit. Where did I put my charger?

Mabilis pa naman ito ma-lobat since nakabukas ang wifi. Napalingon ako muli sa phone ko nang may nag-pop na notification sa facebook ko.

Napatayo ako sa kama at saka napa-suntok ng dalawang beses sa ere.

I heaved a sigh nang ma-realize kong tulog na rin si mama kaya hindi ko na maipapahanap ang charger ko.

I let myself fall on the soft mattress then massaged my temples.

Napalingon ako sa picture ng isang babae sa study table ko.

Nakangiti ito habang nakatitig sa plate nya na punong puno ng carbonara. Damn girl.

Napangiti ulit ako saka dinalaw ng antok. I slept with one thing on my mind.
