Nyssa's pov
"Alright boys. Let's talk about the third album. How far along is that?" Mark starts, laying a couple sheets of paper out on the table as he speaks. I try to pay attention, but my stupid Viper phone starts buzzing. Aiden has an emergency for me. Crap.
"I'll be back," I mumble, standing up.
"Sit back down, Nyssa. We are about to have a conversation involving you," Mark comments, not even looking at me. I bite my lip and contemplate. Aiden can just send the hologram. The deciding factor is when Aiden starts spamming me with texts. This is serious.
"I can't," I protest, "I have to use the bathroom. It may take a few minutes too." I'll admit that I am embarrassed. But it has to be done. Mark still isn't convinced. I catch Calum's eye and give him an urgent look.
"Mark, let's just talk about the recording schedule next. Let Nyssa go," he pipes up. Mark huffs with annoyance, but begins looking for more papers. I turn on my heel and speed walk down the hallway, towards the bathroom.
~
"Alright Aiden, this better be important. I embarrassed myself to get away," I snap, already in my Viper costume.
"It is. The hologram wouldn't have worked for another super," Aiden answers, his expression grim.
"What? Are you talking about Rylan and River? Or Xander o-"
"No. There's another one. She's apparently chosen the villain side. From what I've heard off of news reports, her name is Cyclone and she has some sort of power over air. She's terrorizing some playground, holding all of the people there as hostages," Aiden informs me, tossing me my headset. I put it on.
"Go kick some ass, Viper," Oliver smirks, giving me a high five as he jogs past me. I nod and take off running.
~
"Viper!" A little boys screams, pointing at me. About three or four kids try to run up to me. Their parents grab onto their arms, restraining them. Cyclone turns and sees me, grinning maliciously. My stomach flips. I haven't fought another super before.
"Calm down, Nyssa," Oliver speaks into the headset, "get the hostages away first." I nod slightly and run forward, grabbing people before running them to the other side of the park, far out of reach of Cyclone.
I am on my last person, the little boy who originally spotted me, when Cyclone makes her move, slamming a gust of wind into my chest. I fly backwards, the little boy still in my arms. I land on my back and try to protect him as Cyclone approaches. My head is killing me. The boy's mother was screaming his name; Conner.
"Stay down, Conner," I instruct, standing back up. He nods, his eyes wide. I turn and face Cyclone.
"Viper, what a surprise. I mu-"
"Is this going to take a long time? 'Cause I'm literally right in the middle of something. You couldn't have had worse timing." She looks a little shocked by my rude comments. I take that opportunity to rush her. She comes back to her senses and blasts me with air again, sending me flying backwards, right into the monkey bars. I hit my head against the metal pole, then fall face first to the ground, landing on my ribs. I hear a cracking sound.
"I'll see you again soon, Viper," Cyclone promises before she flies off, leaving me laying there. Conner runs over and helps me stand up. I smile and take his hand, walking him over to his mother. Then I take off, running back to the house.
I walk through the backdoor, clutching my ribcage. My head is pounding. I hear a glass hit the ground and shatter. I whip my head around. Luke is standing there, his mouth agape. I catch my reflection in the glass and realize my mistake. I'm still in my Viper costume. Shit.
"What. The. Hell." Luke gasps out, his eyes still wide. How am I going to lie my way out of this one?
Sorry the update was so late today. I was at an amusement park all day today and I'm also on spring break. I love you guys!!
