Evan and Connor just stared at each other for a moment, before the awkwardness hit and their eyes snapped away from the other.

"I-I uh, I mean um, ok so...thanks?? For um...help-helping me? Um.." Connor fought the urge to laugh at Evan's stuttering and instead just nodded.

"Yeah, it's fine. Uh, yeah. That was...kind of weird."

"Yuuup." Evan laughed awkwardly. The bell rang and Evan jumped. Connor jerked away, realizing that they had still been holding hands.

"U-Umm...I--"

"Uh, bye Hansen!" Connor turned around and bolted, still embarrassed, so embarrassed in fact that he was ditching school. Evan stood in shock, realizing he had missed an entire class.

"Hey Evan, are you okay?" Jared asked from behind him. Evan turned. He didn't think Jared cared at all. Maybe he did have a friend after all. Maybe he could be foun--

"Where did the school shooter touch you?" Jared snickered, holding up a 'touch doll' image on his phone. Of course. Evan, without a word, turned around and ran out of school. He was not going to have another panic attack at school. Not today, at least. He ran to the forest, dashing up the hill that overlooked the town. Evan would've jumped if a certain long-haired boy wasn't already there.

Connor's legs were stretched out lazily in front of him as he sat, back pressed against the tree, eyes closed, expression calm. Evan wanted to stare for forever. He creeped over the other side, the side with the worse view. Evan's body stayed more curled up than Connor's, but he still had the same calm expression. For the first time in a long while, it was just quiet and calm. When Connor finally opened his eyes, he noticed a familiar blank cast lying near the edge of his vision.

Connor stood up, and he was about to question why the boy was even next to him when he realized that Evan was asleep. He looked peaceful, more peaceful than he had ever looked at school. Connor felt bad, seeing it was getting dark and Evan wasn't waking up. Connor sighed, running a hand through his hair and picking up the sleeping boy. Of course, he didn't know where Evan lived, so he'd have to bring him to his house. Connor chuckled and sighed, walking down the road towards the place he called home.

"Connor, where have you--Who is that? Why are you carrying him?" Mr. Murphy snapped. Connor knew his parents wouldn't trust him, even now.

"He's a kid from a school. He fell asleep outside, I'm helping him. Jesus." Connor growled, ignoring his parents and taking Evan upstairs. He laid Evan on his bed and tucked him in, laying beside him, but not daring to go under the covers. Connor fell asleep easily- with the adorable, anxious boy by his side.

Evan woke up, and realized quickly he was in a house, but not his house. He sat up, terrified, and suddenly spotted Connor, still sleeping next to him. Evan was flustered, but he didn't dare make a sound. Connor was normally angry and easily irritated, and Evan didn't want to know how he was early in the morning, especially being woken up by a kid who was randomly in his house. Evan snuck out of the covers, decided he could snoop just for a bit. Evan saw a sketchbook, and curiously stalking toward the desk it sat on. He opened it, flipping immediately to a page where someone who appeared to be Zoe was sketched in pencil. Evan heard shifting, and he fumbled a bit before closing the sketchbook and turning around.

Connor blinked a few times before realizing that Evan was not only standing up, but staring directly at him and blushing furiously. Connor sat up and raised an eyebrow, wanting an explanation. He wondered how long Evan had been staring at him...

"Uh...Sorry, I-I, uh, where...is this your house? Sorry." Evan stuttered nervously. Connor chuckled, watching Evan squirm in embarrassment and anxiety.

"Yeah, I live here. You fell asleep under a tree, It was kind of pathetic, so I brought you here." Connor picked up his phone from the bedside table, reading that it was six A.M. currently.

"It's six o'clock. Sorry if I scared you I guess." Connor said sleepily, throwing his legs over the side of the bed. Evan kept his eyes on Connor, as he was still on edge from waking up in a new place.

"I-It's fine. I m-mean, I-I'm fine." Evan stuttered, shivering slightly. Connor turned around, and strode towards Evan, who was hyperventilating.

"Hey, hey. You're fine, okay? I...Come here." Connor took Evan's hand and led him to his bed, Connor placed his arms on Evan's shoulders as he helped Evan re -stabilize his breathing. Evan shook his head.

"Sorry."

"Damn, you scared me nerd. Try not to freak out, okay? You're going to kill me." Connor said with a sigh. Evan let out a breathy laugh, attempting to keep his breathing steady and calm. Connor watching him, clearly not sure what to do. How could he comfort this kid if he couldn't even comfort himself? Connor flopped down on the bed and lay, simply staring at the ceiling. He sighed, grabbing the back of Evan's blue shirt and pulling him down too. Evan yelped slightly before covering his mouth nervously and turning his gaze to Connor, who happened to also be staring back at him. Both averted their gazes.

"I'll be back," Connor mumbled, getting up and leaving the room. Evan takes careful notice of how carefully Connor shuts the door. Evan curls up and falls back asleep, calm and quiet.
