"Kaneki... Kaneki... Kane-ki."
The hard gorund was very uncomfortable for your shoulder and your extremities were numb. You shiver from the ice-cold wind and wished that Kaneki was here. Thinking about his hug made you a little bit warmer. You smiled. But you weren't conscious. You were somewhere between deep sleep and complete wakefullness, since every word you said reflected your feelings.
"Will you come for me? Will you? Because I don't know where you are. I only now that you are somewhere where I'm not. But then... where am I?
Be here, please. There will be an opportunity to see you again, right? Because there are so many things I need to tell you.
"Gone... You're gone. And I want to go too."
Then a mosquito brought you back to reality. Its thin, trembling buzzing reached your ears unexpectedly, so you waved your hand around your ear. But it didn't disappear. You didn't have the strength to stand up and move away, so you grabbed your bag and with an 'elegant' movement, you threw it on your head. What the-? Did it hatch in my brain or something? Nah, whatever. And it became silent for a moment. Then a sob, and the high-pitched sound was heard again.
This is not a mosquito, it's crying! You realised, and after shaking your bag off, you stood up. You were listening very closely. You even stopped breathing for a second, since the weeping was incredibly quiet. But it was so loud a minute ago...
You were turning your head slowly left and right to locate the source of the crying. 10 o'clock! You said when you found the direction.
You kept running towards where the cry came from. And then you saw a girl. She had shoulder-length brown hair and a flowery headband in it. She was curled up in a ball, deep in the vegetation.
"What happened?" You asked quietly.
The girl kept crying with big blobs of tears falling down her cheeks. You tried to cautiously approach her but she turned away as you made the first step.
"Something wrong must have happened if you're crying. I might be able to help you," you said calmingly, "shutting yourself off from the world now is probably not the best idea."
But she didn't answer. There was a long two minutes of silence after you spoke. She then eventually stopped crying and only a few sobs could've been heard. She opened her wet eyes.
"He is gone... he is gone..." she whispered.
"Who's gone?" you asked in a sad tone.
Her sobs got more frequent and she started weeping again.
"My friend. Onii-chan," she said in a high-pitched voice, "I've lost Onii-chan."
"Onii-chan?" you asked confusedly.
"Yeah. Onii-chan. He was my best friend and now-"
"Wait, wait." You interrupted gently. "Hang on a minute. Do you know his real name?"
The girl turned towards you, stood up with all her strength and wiped off her tears firmly.
"Kaneki. Kaneki Ken," she said severly, "and I'm going to find him."
Your heart skipped a beat. Not because you didn't know this, but because that's how your bidy reacted everytime you heard his name or thought about him. And seeing him caused you to feel collywobbles and unnoticably tremble with intense feelings.
"Kaneki..." you gaped.
The girl was still staring at you, her eyes radiating sadness and determinism at the same time. You walked closer to her and kneed down to her face.
"I've lost him too." And you gave her a faint, emphasizing smile.
Her lips started to tremble and her eyebrows tilted outwards. She ran into your chest, crying again.
"I want to find him! I want to know if he is alright!" she said, with intermittent breathing.
"Me too... but do you know what? Let's find him together." You said, trying to make her smile a little bit.
"...okay..." she said unsurely. And you saw that almost invisible smile appearing on her face.
"And what's your name?" She asked.
"(Name)." You answered.
You stood up. You both started to slowly walk in a direction, where you suddenly saw bits of pale lights appearing in the horizon.
"And yours?" You continued the conversation.
"Hinami." She said.
And she grabbed your hand shyly.
The mosquito.
