Chapter 8: Moon

It's 11:00pm and I'm walking in a cornfield. In shoes covered in blood. This can't be reality. Now I'm going to close my eyes, count to three and I'll be home.

You stopped and closed your eyes.

One, two... three!

No... no, this can't be true. Okay, let's try it again.

You closed your eyes again.

One... two... three!!

But you had to admit it that no matter how many times you tried, the same corns and trees were surrounding you. It was the same ground lying beneath your feet, the same sky above your head and the same darkness covering everything.

However, your persistence and exhausting long walk payed off. The hope had suddenly light up in you when you saw the towering trees in front of you and the wet green grass under them. Your steps were more prolific and energetic. 

Finally!  

You were just simply full of joy and relief. You were walking among the trees, while smiling with happiness and amazement. The leaves on the branches looked like small lotus leaves from under water, lit by moonbeams. 

Let's see if I find something on the other side. If not, no problem. At least I got out of that bloody cornfield. 

You made a few steps and you already saw the other side; which made the smile immediately dissappear from your face.

Another cornfield.

WHAT?! No. No... oh, please no...

You tilted your head backwards and collapsed onto your knees. Then with a huge sigh, you banged your head against your palms. Your heavy puffing warmed up your hands and your face, but the cold wind sneaked between them and stole away that little heat too. You didn't cry, you just felt helpless. And hungry and sleepy. You looked up from your palms and found yourself facing a boy. In the moment of realisation you gasped, and all your problems vanished somehow.

"Kaneki!" you said his name from within your soul, while you slowly and hesitantly stood up. His glowing eyes were radiating guilt and you didn't even understand the reason behind it. He alternatingly glanced at the ground, then back at you.

"You have no reason for remorse. You haven't done anything bad." you said in a friendly but confused way. Did something happen that I don't know about?

You went closer to him and smiled. He just kept standing speechlessly and emotionlessly, as if he was looking through a window. As if you weren't even there. Is it possible that I'm only dreaming this? What's going on?

Kaneki's eyes which were moonlit with glimmer now turned pale, and every single sign of life extinguished in them. They were staring at the ground. But as if the spark of hope ignited, they got shiny again, to then give way for the restrained feelings. No, no! I can't just stand here, doing nothing, while he is falling into pieces in front of me. With rapidly rising emotions you ran towards him and putting all your strength in it, you embraced on him, hoping that your hug will comfort him.

You crushed to the ground with extreme shock. He wasn't there. You petrifiedly examined your dusty hands, then you snapped your head up in horror and looked around. Your glance swiftly jumped from one point to another , which were followed by constant and desperate panting. 

He is nowhere. He's gone! He ran away! 

Of course he didn't run away. And you knew it very well too. 

He... was just part of my imagination. 

Your breath started to tremble and you sank your fingers deep into the grass. You suddenly bursted into heart-breaking screaming and yelling. Tears trickled down from your eyes, which scratched your face all the way down to your jewlines. The moon was already high up in the sky and its gleaming light took you away with its dance into the boundless world of dreams.

A/N: It's been a while, I hope you enjoyed this chapter too. Exams are over, so hey, I can update more frequently now but likely shorter chapters. BTW I'm patiently waiting for Tokyo Ghoul Season 3 to come out. Most websites/videos said it will come out at the end of december (2016), then at the end of april (2017), still nothing happened. Not as if I'm angry or anything, it's just very frustrating when they finally announce the date(s) and then you're usually dissappointed when you see that nothing actually happened; but there we go.
