"You're gonna talk on the assembly." Said Arushi with a sly smile.
...-Da hell?
When will you talk?
On which assembly?
You were confused for a moment, but then you were very relieved.
"Oh, well... yeah. Although it should have been kept as a secret." You said, like it's really the truth. You didn't even know where she got all these random information from, but you didn't even want to go into detail about it, in fear of "getting caught".
"Shit." Said Arushi. "I should be in a meeting right now. I have to go back." She said with shock. "You can go home. It's gonna take at least half an hour if not more. You shouldn't wait that much for me."
You got a bit scared. Arushi? Without you? What if Kaneki will be there too? And not to mention that you would have to walk home all alone. Defenselessly. For more than 27 minutesOH MY GOD!! Ok, calm down, there is no reason to panic. And by the way, what's the worst thing that can happen? Arushi goes out with Kaneki, and you're going to be eaten by a famished ghoul... "Are you sure?" You asked, but solely out of politeness.
"Of course. Well, I'm off. Bye.~" Said Arushi, and you didn't even say collywobbles, off she went. You didn't hesitate, you got going too. Home.
The first 5 minutes of the walk went pretty well. Soon you got to "the" crossroad. You felt the....uhmm... wait.... oh yeah, the butterflies in your stomach - again. There was him standing. Next to the red pedestrian lights. In that moment, every thought of yours related to him had filled your mind and you didn't even know what to do. Should I go to him? Or should I rather wait 'til he gets on the other side of the road? The light will soon turn green. What should I do? You thought indecisively. In the end fate decided it for you. Kaneki had noticed you and waved at you. He was wearing his green hoodie. You walked to him with prolific steps and said hi. When the pedestrian lights turned green, you crossed the road. Your watch showed quarter past four.
You were speechlessly walking by each other while you looked at each other every once in a while. Then suddenly a thought pierced you through. His eye. If it's true what you saw in tutor time, then you're walking with a possible murderer right now. With a ghoul. This is another reason why you thought you should avoid him. Not because of anger. You didn't even dare to think about how long you will have to walk with him. But at the same time, you felt really happy that you had an opportunity like this. Your heart and brain were furiously fighting and kept on swapping dominance over you.
You were surprisingly following the same route, you were almost scared that you are living in the same house. Ok, maybe not.
"Well, bye I guess." Said Kaneki, a little bit sadly.
If you would've kept going together for another 5 minutes, you would've got to your house. But it didn't happen this way. You stopped at a silent, dark street, in front of a one floored town house's gate. You knew this place, but you didn't go to school this way. You never walk this way. And to think about that you will have to walk alone for the last few minutes triggered your imagination.
"Nani (What)?" Asked Kaneki with friendly but surprised tone, when he noticed that you didn't say goodbye and were just staring at a random house at the end of the street.
"Oh, uhm, nothing. Bye." You said, disillusioned from your thoughts, and you forced a slight smile on your face. You watched Kaneki as he steps into the house and how the lights disappear as he closes the door.
For a few seconds, you were just standing in front of the gate. You looked around. It was quarter to five, but no one was out already. The sky was still sort of blue, but since the sun was already bellow the hoizon, you couldn't see that clear anymore. It got darker and darker by every single minute. Your only hopes were the lamp of the houses. But they soon got pale as the people shut the curtains and blinds. Only the light of the street lamps fogged the darkness. With every faded house you were more and more scared. Finally, with your arms crossed, you slowly and carefully made the first steps. You breathed very quietly, and you didn't dare to gulp at all. You were staring at the pavement which had some red innocent patches on it. It looked like cherry juice.
"I just need to get home." You thought. A cold feeling ran through your veins.
"I just need to get home." You thought. Your eyes suddenly stretched wide.
"I just need to get home." You said. And the corner of your mouth turned upwards. You looked up.
"I just need to get home." You whispered insanely. And like a psychotic robot, you began repeating and repeating it, while you were walking on the streets with slow steps. At times you laughed a little.
Step by step, house from house, you kept going like a somnambulist, blinded by your fears. When you saw your house appearing, you paused gently. You tilted your head to the right. Then you just stood there for a while watching your house with a confused facial expression. Then your lips shakily moved upwards.
"Just a few steps and I'll be home." You said happily, but still madly.
You continued walking towards your house. This time, your paranoid instincts encouraged you to look at your watch. Half past five. It was pitch dark. You surely got lost somewhere on the way. You looked back on the house. This time you really tried to calm yourself down and kept walking with your slow pace. But your steps soon got faster in your excitement, as you got closer and closer to your house.
"Just... A... Few. Steps. And. I'll! BE! HO-"
You hardened into stone. The smile rapidly disappeared from your face and you stopped blinking.
Someone was holding your shoulder.
