The Beginning of a Twisted- Eventful Path

Part Three

It was a sunny day like any other in the city of light. The only difference was that Bast had finally gotten what he deserved, but no peace-loving elf was willing to give him. He laid on the pure white ground of the street, hand holding the noise that trickled with ugly red blood, face shocked and indignant, as if he hadn't believed what just happened.

Meanwhile, Ryuu, who looked equally as relieved at Bast having let go, calmly opened the first book amidst his pile, expressionless as if nothing at all had happened, as if he hadn't just seen a tiny girl punch an elf away because he had simply touched her. “You should know dolls don't like getting touched.” He didn't even look down at Bast as he said this matter-of-factly, dark black bangs falling over the glassy black eyes which read at an unseen before speed. He was now pages over in the book.

“W-What...?...Doll?”

Ryuu simply nodded in response as I expressionlessly looked down at Bast.

“They never show expression either.”

This was a first in a very long time where Bast managed to stay without a smile, shock and confusion covering his delicate elf features instead.

“...How do you know if they are going to suddenly hit you, then?” His azure eyes were wide and innocent for once.

“You don't. Just don't touch her.”

“By the way, that girl wasn't a princess.” I said, still standing there and looking at him. With that, I was prepared to turn away and leave, but was momentarily stunned. Bast could not last long without a smile. Golden hair shining under the bright sun, azure eyes twinkling under the golden lashes, yet still laying helplessly on the ground, he said simply: “All girls are princesses.”

As I stood there, body half turned and ready to leave, looking down at him with eyes that said: “Is this guy for real?” he turned to Ryuu, not at all affected by the fact he was planted on the ground and his nose was still flowing out with blood. “How did you know she was a Doll? What else do you know?”

Suspiciously eying the smiling elf, Ryuu turned back towards his book, pages flying by one after the other as he read incredibly fast, still managing to answer Bast.

“Can't you see her hair? It's turned pitch black. Her eyes have also turned a bright sapphire blue. Since Dolls don't- no, can't express emotions with facial expressions, they have to settle for using their magical voices more beautiful than any other race. Also, if the emotion is strong enough, the color of elements of their appearances might change. However, this is a rare occurrence, and most dolls settle down with one color after they have grown and their personality settled.” He glanced at me now, black eyes meeting a vibrant sapphire blue. “It is very rare to actually meet a Doll, especially one whose personality still fluctuates.” Finishing the book about five-hundred pages long in a matter of minutes, he closed the hard blue cover, long black lashes covering his eyes as he sighed, then looked up and turned towards Bast, his stare always more like an intense glare. The only difference was that it never worked on Bast. He didn't care.

“If you had read this book, you would have known.”

I ignored the fact he just used a roundabout way of saying I was bipolar or at least had multiple-personality disorder, my mind already unconsciously reminiscing the time when my hair and eyes first changed color – the time I had found out exactly why both my parents' hair and eye color were gold, the time when as only a seven year old I had entered those tunnels, glanced behind a portrait, and first peered into the abyss and ugliness of my parents souls.
