"Where did Ms.Heathcliffe go?" Chae asks me as we take to elevator to the 20th floor.
Everyone else has left and went home. Including Chae's team. I didn't miss the cocky and mocking winks sent Chae's way meanwhile Namjoon sent cheesy shooty fingers. Seokjin slapped Namjoon on the back of his head. Kookie and Tae raised their eyebrows in curiosity as if they were being forces to leave.
I didn't want any of them to go.
Hoseok mockingly half-assed bowed with a shit eating grin plastered on his face. Yoongi held his hand up in a calling motion with a knowing look.
Now, here we are Chae and I are on completely opposite sides of the elevator while he just stares at me and I look straight ahead at elevator doors.
Please open. Please open.
There is so much tension in this one elevator it could be cut with a chainsaw.
When the doors open, I speed walk to my office, clear on the other side of the space.
I walk in and immediately get a text from Apollo. Something about things getting heated with Jiho. Hmm.. lowering my phone, I stare straight ahead.
I really need to look more into Jiho and who he really is. I start to realize that I have just been standing in my darkened office with a dazed expression. Looking behind me, I notice Chae still there and seeming as if he can't come in. So, he does know what boundaries are.
"Chae, you can come in." I say quietly.
"I can?" He asks as he tentatively walks into my office like a little kid afraid of getting yelled at by his mother.
"Yes." I say as I get a call from my mother.
No, not now. Please not now. I swipe the screen to answer anyway.
"Kana. Hello, sweet heart. How's your day?" She asks as her face of caring goes on.
I hear my dad in the back of the call telling my mom to cut the act and just ask what they want to know.
Oh peachy.
"Fi-" I start emotionless but yet again my mom cuts me off.
"Great. How did playing nice with the Chae's little brat go?" My mom asks with so much hostility.
I raise my gaze from the floor and look at Hyungwon, who so happens to be looking curiously at a picture hanging on my wall.
He doesn't seem like a brat. He seems like someone forced into this.
"It was fine. Just as planned." I cryptically reply.
"This isn't the only time. I want you to make sure that the competition lessens. Play nice and break him if you have to. Get him to bow down to you." My mom orders over the phone and I lower the call volume. Even if it is pressed to my ear, I don't want to hear her and I certainly don't want him to hear her.
I don't want to manipulate him. They manipulate me already. Something about doesn't deserve any of this.
He needs to stay away from me.
"Yes, mother." I say robotically. It's complete impulse and training now.
"Great, sweetie. Bye." She says as she hangs up.
I lower my head back to my desk and train my eyes on the floor. Damn it. They don't care. They never have. Why should I do what they say. I don't want to hurt him. It's not who I am, I'm not a manipulator.
I take a long shaky sigh and stand up while grabbing my clothes that I previously wore before Chae and the other guys showed up.
Once, I leave the bathroom in my office, I'm back into my ripped jeans, combat boots, white sweater crop top, and leather jacket.
Chae trys to hide the surprise in his features but fails. His eyes enlarge to a comical extent and his borws shoot to his hairline.
Shit, probably shouldn't have done this. I really should've kept up the professional act.
He shakes his head then opens his mouth to speak.
"So, this how the great Ms.Light dresses when she isn't working." He says in such a snarky way I could punch him.
"Fuck you." I let it slip before I realize.
Damn, good job Kana.
"Right back at you." He retorts at the speed of light.
I just roll my eyes and I grab my keys, wallet, and sunglasses. My phones are already in my pocket.
I mentally push Hyungwon out of my office as I walk toward the door. He apparently gets the mental message and leaves.
He waits for me to lock the door then starts to walk with me toward the elevator.
"Oh, yeah. Do you know anything about Jiho?" He suddenly asks as I push the one on the elevator that we just stepped into.
"Apollo's fiance. How do you know about him?" I ask with stone face.
"Well, uh, Wonho may or may not have texted me about him. He said he seems sketchy." Chae explains while scratching the back of his neck.
I glance over at him with my eyebrow raised.
"Did he now? He's not wrong. I don't particularly like Jiho." I shrug as the ding sounds out.
Before he can respond, I ask him what's been bothering me all day.
"Why are you still here? Are your parents making you hang around me?" I ask in a curious tone but I think it comes across more as unsteady.
"Why?" He redirects.
Ofcourse, you wouldn't tell me. This is why I don't get close to people. They really don't care.
"Forget it." I dismiss as I walk away.
As soon as I reach my car which was convention parked outside and not in the garage, I unlock it and start to get in. My car is a completely black everything, Audi r8 v10. I absolutely love it.
Fuck, I've got to see him again tomorrow. This is going be harder than I thought.
"Can I call you, Kana, instead of Light?" Chae calls out from behind me as I get into my car.
My..my name. I shouldn't care about my name but it hits a mix of emotions in me the moment it slips past his tongue.
"No, Hyungwon." I call back and even from this distance I can see the surprise on his face.
I wouldn't leave him here without a ride so I assume the black Acura nxs is his. Makes sense. That car is gorgeous. Suits him well.
Once, I've pulled off and stop at a red light, I text Yoongi, then Apollo.
I tell Yoongi to come over in which he agrees to and I don't get an answer from Apollo. I'll call her when I get home.
