This or that

I had used my battle aura to suspend my sword in the air and now I was standing straight on it without any support. The stadium's defenses were breaking down due to the combined pressure released by our auras. I could see everyone paying close attention to us but not the pillars which were on the verge of collapse. The monumental pillars were tilted towards the stage for the sake of decoration yet now they would most probably serve as our tombs. The pillar at the right side, behind Daniel, collapsed and fell. It would hit him in no time and just like that a life would come to an end. And I, who is standing extremely close to him will only be able to helplessly watch.

No.
I will not let that happen.
I ought to atleast try saving him.

I willed my sword to fly towards Daniel. I reached him before the debris but I was only slightly faster. There was no time and strength left to take Daniel and flee.
Now, I had two options, either use my remaining energy to push Daniel away from the spot or run away all by myself.
It was a choice between my life or his...
I gritted my teeth and pushed him away. I had come over to save him and I am not backing out, besides I have already tasted death once so I am not afraid of experiencing it again. Moreover, this time it would be for a just cause.
The heavy pieces of the stones fell on top of me blocking my vision and bringing with it extreme pain.
It was excruciating.
I was glad when I was losing my consciousness for I will not have to feel the pain any longer.

After a long time though I don't know how long I felt something warm on my left hand. I think it's water.
That's not right!
How could I actually feel something. Ain't I dead?
I tried opening my eyes. It took a lot of effort but I could finally see light. Slowly my vision cleared. I turned my head slightly to check my hand and saw Evie. She was crying. I lifted my hand to wipe her tears and caught her attention.
She looked at me for a while  before running out of the room. My hand was still suspended in mid action. It grew heavier thus I quietly put it down.
I heard Evie's loud voice calling out, "Father! Father, where are you? Brother woke up. Father..."
