Terry stood with a bored look on his face as he adopted the airplane arms that the tailor made him do. He was currently getting measurements so a kingly suit could be made for him. The dark prince sighed openly and the trailer hissed for him not to move.
That only made Terry sigh again and roll his eyes.
Three more agonizing hours passed as Terry half assed his way through all the training he must do in order to be King. At least he didn't have suitor duty today, which would have made his day so much worse if he did.
"Ugh." Terry groaned loudly as he trudged down the hallway with Maybelle at his side.
"What's wrong your highness?" The petite head maid said and looked up at the sulking prince.
"Everything." Terry said and let his shoulders sag, he was stressed because his sister was on his back everyday about marriage and leading and other things Terry didn't want to do.
"That's a broad subject your majesty. Do you mind elaborating?" Maybelle hummed as she expertly steered the prince through the doorway.
"This whole suitor thing, I don't want to marry like this Maybelle. I want to actually do it now normal people do it." The Prince said and crossed his arms.
"Have sex, then get pregnant so now you're stuck with each other?" Maybelle asked bluntly which made Terry snort with laughter and shake his head.
"No no, I mean take them on a date. Get to know them, have a first kiss and things like that and slowly fall in love with them." He said wistfully and sighed like a teenage girl.
Maybelle just nodded and let out a small noise of agreement as she opened the door for Terry, "I presume you're going to the garden?" She asked and Terry nodded.
"Good." Maybelle said and took Terry's coat and papers he was carrying, "I will stall for you as long as I can." She said and the prince smiled warmly at the head servant.
"Thank you Maybelle." He said and then rushed outside into the extensive garden the kingdom held.
He sighed openly and breathed in the sweet smell of cherry blossom and snapdragons. Terry trailed down the walk way and brushed his hand against every flower and even plucked a few to make into a crown.
He occupied himself with this activity while sitting next to the old oak tree for awhile before looking up to see another figure.
The figure was clad in blue attire, something rare to see in a castle who was painted in warm colors like red and yellow. Terry's eyes narrowed as he watched the figure pluck at the herbs and things in one section of the garden.
The prince watched for a bit and put down his flowers. He stood and quietly wandered over to see who it was.
He couldn't get a very good look at the others face, so the prince grabbed a rock and threw it at the figure. The hard rock smacked the figure against the head and it let out a squawk of surprise and fell backwards. The figure sat on the ground for a few moments before standing and brushing itself off.
"Who threw that?" It asked, its voice was thundering with newfound anger. It was deep and smooth but also raspy around the corners, it went a chill down the prince's spine.
The figure was now looking around angrily, frost blue magic bloomed at it's feet and hands as it pulled back its hood to reveal the face of Azure. But Azure's face was contorted with anger and his eyes were almost white. The frost blue magic seemed to intensify as the witch huffed and started to storm off.
"Wait!" Terry called out of reflex and the witch whipped around to stare at the dark prince a few paces away.
They stared at each other for a few moments. Despite his status in the castle, Azure was seething with anger. His chest heaved in labored breaths to keep his cool as he stared at the Prince who stared right back.
Terry stared at Azure, he couldn't help the chill he felt at the other's form. Azure was known for cold magic, something rare. Terry swore he could feel the freezing temperature from there.
"U-uh.." Terry said and scoffed, he was at a loss for words. His throats felt dry as he stared at the heaving form.
"Spit it out your highness." Azure spit and took a step back, his voice was ice cold and Terry just swallowed nervously.
Terry had always made others feel nervous, his fiery magic and cold attitude always made them cower or submit to his will. Not the other way around. He could feel the raw power oozing out of Azure, it was cold and almost willing his fiery soul to cool down.
In all honestly, Terry wouldn't be lying if he didn't say he didn't find that attractive.
"I- I'm sorry. I didn't know it was you Azure." He croaked and looked away.
Azure stared at the prince for a moment before his eyes returned to their relaxed blue, "Its fine. Just, maybe call out next time?" Azure said and pulled at his leather gloves before bending down and going right back to his herb hunting.
Terry nodded and swallowed the lump in his throat, eventually the prince found himself shuffling over and crouching next to Azure who glanced at him and then reached for a mint plant.
"What are you doing?" Terry asked gently and watched Azure pluck the plant and put it in his basket.
"If you must know, I'm getting herbs to restock my resources." Azure said smoothly and continued to sift through the assortment of herbs and flowers.
"Do you do this everyday?" Terry asked and hummed a little.
"No, only when I get low." Azure answered and adjusted the ribbon around his neck.
"Oh." Terry mumbled and seemed to sag slightly.
They were both silent for some time, Terry watching the witch pluck at the herbs and mumbled to himself. The prince found himself surrounded by the scent of earth, mint, and honey. When he inspected it further, he found that the smell was coming from Azure. He hummed a little and made a mental note of that, the prince seemed to enjoy himself then. Like real happiness was settling in the pit of his stomach, it made him smile a little.
"Why are you smiling your highness?" Azure's deep voice snapped Terry out of his daydream state.
"Oh..uh nothing." Terry said and flushed out of embarrassment, he didn't know why but he was loosing his cool.
Azure smiled a little at the prince's inability to play it smooth. The witch himself was having a bit of trouble keeping his own cool, inside he was screaming right now. The prince was right there, so close to him. Their knees were almost touching and their hands had brushed only a few times when Terry was helping to pull out a particularly tough flower. The prince was warm, unlike his always cold body. It felt nice, he wanted to lean into it but didn't want to risk weirding out the other. Terry smelt like a fireplace and cinnamon. Something that Azure associated with kindness, and that's what he felt in the others soul. Azure could easily read souls, like they were a book. And awhile back, he had took a glimpse at the prince's soul and was almost blown away at how much kindness oozed from the other's being.
Azure guessed that's what got him hooked.
He was in so deep that he was fangirling internally at every sentence they shared. But he had to keep his cool, so that's why Azure kept a neutral grin on his face as he absently answered every quire the prince threw at him.
Eventually, one of the sergeants burst through and called for Terry.
The dark prince sighed and got up, Azure did the same and looked at Terry.
"It seems they need you for something, thank you for joining me. It's nice to have someone to talk to your highness." Azure said and bowed to the prince who blinked softly.
"It was a pleasure being in your company Azure." Terry said and watched at Azure held out his hand for a small parting handshake. It was custom in the kingdom to shake hands before departing.
Terry didn't know what made him do it, but instead he lifted Azure's hand and kissed it just like he would with meeting a girl. When the prince looked back up, the witch's face a dark red. Azure stuttered slightly and Terry just nodded and left the garden.
Leaving Azure to stare at his hand and let out a small squeak.
