My hands shake.
This must be the key I need! The key to the box, a key to the mystery.
I sit - legs crossed. I wedge this mini treasure chest on my legs, and stick the key inside. I hear a quiet chink, as the lid squeaks open.
I peer inside.
Nothing - the box is empty.
Then, I feel dizziness float over me. Not another vision!
A small person appears inside the box. A fairy perhaps.
"Who are you?" It speaks.
"Kacey Williams. What are you?"
"Kacey is it? I've been expecting you sometime soon. Took you long enough."
"What are you?" I ask again.
"I am your guardian Kacey. You don't see me anymore. I used to be by your side, but I had to leave. But now I'm back!"
"I don't understand. What are you trying to say?"
"I am your mother Kacey, and I need to protect you."
I slam the box shut.
That isn't possible. Spiritual guardians aren't real, you just read about them in story books!
I hear a tapping on the box.
"Let me out Kacey! Please!" Shouts this thing.
It can't be possible. There is only one way to prove she is truly mother.
"Answer me this! How did you die?" I ask.
"My body died from cancer, but I still live as the spirit in your heart."
I lift the lid once once more, and she seems to fly out.
"I've been calling for you" she says.
"Why?" I question.
"I want you to join me!" She announces.
"Why?"
"I wanted to see you for a long time."
"Why can't you just come back?" I ask.
"No I cannot, the only way we can be together is if you join me."
"I want to live my life first!" I cry, confused by what is happening.
"Please Kacey. Think about it, a carefree life! I must go now, but I'll be waiting for you."
I feel myself joining the real world once more, staring at the empty content inside the box. All I can see is a red velvet.
Did I just speak with mum?
I've been wishing to speak to her since she died. Now I have.
I could stay with her forever. The strange thing is, I don't want to. I feel something warning me not to.
I pick up my mum and place her into my bag. Swinging it into my back, I walk home.
----------------------------------------
On my arrival home, I am greeted by a furious looking woman standing in front of the door."Where have you been?" My foster mum snaps.
"The park."
"I've been really worried about you!" She shouts, "We all have!"
"Obviously, that's why you've been frantically looking for me instead of awaiting my return."
I shove past, ignoring her threats.
Joining mother is becoming increasingly appealing already.
