"Katie, what do we do?" Brian whispered. I was frozen in place. It couldn't happen tonight. My grandma was supposed to teach me how to stop it...."Katie!" Brian yelled, snapping me out of my thoughts. He stared at me pleadingly. I racked my brain for a plan, but I couldn't think of a good one. "Lets just go check my hotel room for the girls and I can call my grandma and ask her what we should do." I said weakly. Brian nodded and we left the room. We began walking towards the stairs, when I suddenly heard a noise. "Brian, did you hear that?" I whispered to him, not trusting anything I heard under the circumstances. He nodded and held up a hand, gesturing for me to be silent. The noise came again and it sounded like a moan. "It's coming from that way." Brian said, pointing to a hallway a little up and towards my right. I nodded and we crept down the hallway. We were halfway down the hallway when the noise came again, right beside me, but below somehow. I turned and saw the elevators. "Someone's trapped in the elevators." I whispered, stepping forward towards the button that brought the elevator up. "Wait, Katie. What if that's not a someone?" Brian whispered fiercly, grabbing my arm. I opened my mouth to protest, but another moan interrupted my speech. It was a name now. "Katie?" The voice moaned. Taylor. "Brian, it's Taylor!!" I yelled, yanking my arm from his grasp and hitting the button.
It didn't light up, which meant it wasn't working. Figures. "We-we have to pry the doors open." I said, shakily. "How?" Brian asked, looking around for something to try and pry the doors open with. "Oh, wait here! I have something in my room." Brian said, then disappeared down the hall before I could protest. I stood there, staring at the elevators with a determined look. Hmmm...maybe....no it couldn't work, I thought to myself. Maybe I could use magic to open the doors. I stared at them and concentrated hard. I lifted up my hands and imagined the energy flowing from my hands and connecting with the doors. I began moving my hands in different directions, but it was hard. It felt like I was pulling the weight of the doors. I focused harder, and it became easier and soon the doors were opened. I breathed heavily, staring in shock at what I had just done. "Hey Katie, I got the-" Brian said, coming up behind me. He stopped talking when he saw the doors open, revealing the elevator shaft. "How did you....?" He trailed off, his gaze flickering between me and the doors. "Magic." I whispered, a small smile on my lips. Brian leaned a little over the opening, peering down the elevator shaft. "It's only one floor down. We can jump." Brian said, than he jumped. I heard a thud and a grunt.
"Okay Katie, come on down." Brian yelled up out of the elevator shaft. I took a deep breath, then jumped into the dark elevator shaft, remembering to bend my knees so I could land properly. I landed on my feet and stumbled into Brian's waiting arms. The only light came from the glow of lights placed perfectly so they marked each floor. Another moan came from Taylor below us. Brian bent down and ran is hands along the top of the elevator until he opened a little trap door exposing the inside of the elevator. I looked into it. Taylor, Brooke, Autumn, Davy, and Caleb layed on the floor of the elevator. Taylor seemed to be the only one conscious in the mass of slumped forms. I saw a clear spot of floor below me and I swung down into the elevator, moving to the side so Brian could come down also. I heard the thump of him landing behind me as I studied everyone. They were all breathing and seemed unharmed. Although, Taylor did have a nasty looking cut on her forehead. "Taylor," I said, bending down beside her and touching her shoulder. "how are you feeling?" She weakly lifted her head up to look at me. "I feel weak and my head hurts." She said, reaching up to touch her cut and pulling her hand away to see the blood on her fingers. She moaned again. I went over to the nearest slumped form and realized it was Brooke. I reached over and lightly touched her arm. She opened her eyes and screamed, sitting bolt up right. "Shhh, shhh, Brooke it's okay. Everything is okay." I said, but almost as soon as the words left my mouth, that agonizing noise that only I could hear filled my ears. I screamed in pain and clutched my head. "Katie!" I heard Brian yell.
"It's time, Katarina." Jeremiah's voice rang in my ears. "No!!!" I screamed. I stared pleadingly into Brian's eyes, who was shaking my shoulders trying to get me to snap out of it. "No!" I screamed again. The world around me began to fade. Then, everything went black.
