The Downfall

Grainger woke up in a dark room. He reached for his gun but it wasn't there. He patted around feeling for his knife and other forms of weapons. The door creaked open revealing a small sliver of light. Malice strutted in. Grainger didn't know what to expect- would she kill him? Would she harm him? Would she capture him? The number of possibilities was endless. Grainger pushed himself on the ground trying to back away from Malice. She had a gun in her hand aimed at Grainger.

"Grainger, must I remind you?" Malice tormented.

"Remind me of what?"

"All the good times we had together. Grainger don't be foolish, you could rule the galaxy! Don't throw that all away."

"All the good times!  You left me alone of an ice wasteland with monsters and no food for ten years! You call that 'good time'!?" Grainger yelled pulling himself to his feet.

"You where the worst mother a kid could have. So secretive and manipulative, I couldn't even trust you as a kid! For more than half my life, I was raised my people I didn't even know! I almost died on Maverick because I was so stupid as to think you where coming back for me!"

"Grainger I did it to protect you! I loved you! I promise I was coming back..." Malice argued.

"Protect me? That's what all the villains say. You never loved me, you left me to die!" Grainger snarled through his teeth shoving Malice as he yelled.

"Grainger! You have been blinded by the Emperor Turner! Try to see past the lies they have told you."

"I can see through the lies of the Emperor and I know that they sugar coated the story of who you really are. Your not my mother, your a monster!"

With every heart-felt word, it further broke Grainger and Malice's hearts.

"Come back to me my son, I'm sorry. Ever since I left you there, I closed my eyes and pretended that I wasn't a fool and that you where still here but every time I opened them, you where gone and I was the fool. I know there is nothing I can say or do to justify my actions but I do have some information you might want to know." Malice pleaded.

"How do I know you are telling the truth? How do I know I can trust you?" Grainger asked.

"I am your mother, Grainger. I would never lie to you. You are just like your father, more and more every day."

"My father?" Grainger stuttered, struggling to get the words out.

"Yes, Finn. Finn Rodgers." Malice stated. This brought tears to Grainger's eyes.

" Why didn't you tell me this earlier! I lived my whole life without knowing who he was. Not even his name. If you are really telling the truth, then why is my last name Turner if his is Rodgers!" Grainger sneered.

"Your father passed away before you where born. He was the Chosen One just like you. So, he was the top of his class at graduation from the Academy of Ragnarok and studied to become a knight. This led to him becoming the Chosen One and wearing the white  armor instead of the typical black armor like the rest of the knight. He was given a special assignment from the Empress to go on a diplomatic mission to a galaxy called the Twilight District. His plane was reported crashed and his body was found in a lake. He had been dead for nearly two months. He was announced dead the day you were born." Malice choked out. It was just as hard for her to say as it was for Grainger to listen.

Grainger listened in horror hearing of his fathers past. He slowly began to mark the similarities between him and his father. This reminded him of something that General Hope told him about in the academy. She told legends of a magical being from another universe who came to warn the princess  of her newborn son. He told her that we would grow to be his father reincarnated. He wouldn't remember anything from his previous life but he would make the same mistakes over and over again. The son would die young and cause grief and suffering for both his parents and his wife, the princess.

"The magical being said that the son was his father reincarnated and that you needed to dump him and change the course of the future otherwise, he would die just like his father. The exact same way. You where the mother weren't you, Malice?" Grainger cried. Malice covered her mouth with her hands and wept falling into Grainger and hugging him. Grainger hugged her back and started to think.

"Is that why you left me on Maverick? Not because you didn't love me but because you wanted to protect me?" Grainger asked.

Malice nodded and looked him in the eyes. What was Grainger going to do now? He couldn't kill his mother no matter what? Should he join her? It was his fate after all but that would mean he had to betray Anna.

"Join me, Grainger. Together we can change the future and neither of us will have to die." Malice suggested still crying heavily.

The Emperor and troops stormed the building with swords drawn.

"Kill her, Grainger! She is lying!" The Emperor boomed. Grainger looked at the Emperor and then back at Malice. Maybe she was lying but the he didn't know for certain. If he was really the man in the legend, he couldn't let his mother down. He saw how much his father's death killed his mother. Once more, Grainger looked at the Emperor and then back at Malice. He couldn't bare to leave his mother or for her to leave him. After all, Malice was all Grainger had left. He let his father slip away and he wasn't going to make the same mistakes with his mother.

"No!" Grainger yelled.

"No? On behave on Ragnarok I command you to kill this villain!" The Emperor shouted.

"She isn't a villain! She just made mistakes, the same as you and me! She is my mother, the only family I have left! I won't let you or anyone stand in my way!" Grainger called out.

"She might be your mother but she is malevolent and she needs to learn that her actions have consequences! You can't blow up a planet and expect  to get away with it! Grainger you are either with us or against us!" The Emperor declared.

"Then I guess I'm against you! Unlike your troops, I see through the council's lies. I have freed myself from your twisted tales! I suggest you do the same!" Grainger fired back.

"I knew I felt the darkness inside you ever since I met you on Maverick all those years ago! I guess this only further proves my theory! You where like my son, Grainger and I loved you. You where said to destroy the darkness that  has taken form as Malice not help her rise! I'm sorry I have to do this, Grainger but I can't let you join the evil!" The Emperor retorted as he made an attempt on Grainger's life.

The sword swooshed through the air as Emperor Turner tried to cut Grainger down. Grainger threw his hand out to the sword and screamed. Both the sword and Emperor turned stopped, stuck, frozen. Everyone watched terrified as the darkness consumed Grainger. His once pure blue eyes turned to a dark black and his hair turned black as well. Grainger didn't stop there, he proceeded to freeze the Emperor until he was a solid piece of ice. Then, with a flick of his wrist, he slammed the ice against the wall and stared with a smirk as the ice Emperor shattered like glass, killing him.

"Seize him!" General Hope yelled as the troops trampled the remains of Emperor Turner and targeted Grainger and Malice. Together, Malice and Grainger rose up into the air. With his hands near his sides, he turned his hands palms facing up and watched as the flames grew larger and larger. He then balled up his fist and threw the flames at the troops. It hit them and instantly killed them.  Malice did the same but with lightning. They didn't stop until everyone was dead. Not even General Hope or the Emperor were left alive. Grainger came back down to the ground and shed his armor and sported a black cloak much like Malice's. He pulled the hood up over his head and fled the castle.
