Chapter 1

The sun had only just began to rise on this mild July morning, with hardly any breeze or clouds. It was still quite dark (the sky was a sapphire blue colour) and everyone was asleep. Everything seemed normal, until a large tawny owl suddenly plummeted down from the skies above- paused, and then dropped a letter through the rusty golden post-box of number 12 Grimmuld Place 12. On the back of the letter was written this address in neat, loopy writing and on the front was a large red waxy seal with the letter 'H' moulded onto it. The letter landed with a thump on rug inside the house and, with a satisfied hoot, the owl

spread its wings and flew skywards once more, satisfied that it had done its job well.

Albus Potter awoke a few hours later, trudging into the kitchen sleepily and pouring himself a bowl of cauldrons and broomsticks cereal. Young Lily Potter had just woken up at this point, and saw the thick musty envelope lying by the front door. 'Al, Al!' she shrieked, running down the stairs as fast as she could, 'look what I found in the post Al!' Albus got up from the table so quickly that he knocked over his bowl of cereal without having eaten a spoonful. Was this the letter that he had been waiting for so longingly the past few days- years even? Hardly daring to believe his luck, he waited for Lily to run into the kitchen.
