"Sooo..." began Albus wearily in a desperate attempt to start a conversation after a long and rather awkward silence. The two boys had just been measured for their robes by the rosy cheeked Madame Montiere and were nowing sitting, side by side, wondering what on earth to say to one another.
"So... what house do you want to be in?" stuttered Albus. A second after this question left his mouth, he realised the inevitable answer, and his thoughts were confirmed in Scorpius' reply.
"Slytherin of course like my father. I don't want to let him down. Pott- um, Albus, no prizes for guessing which house you want to be in" he grinned, looking Albus up and down. "Yep, Gryffindor through and through!" Albus smiled gratefully, that was at least a small comfort. But a nagging voice in his head kept teasing 'what if you are really a slytherin? What if... this boy is wrong? You're nothing like your father!' Albus gulped.
"But don't go judging me for that," hesitated Scorpius "Slytherin has changed for the better now, you know." Albus nodded feeling ashamed. he was not going to judge this boy on his father, just as though he did not like being judged on the famous Harry Potter. He sort of wanted to impress this boy, to make at least one friend before he started. Without thinking again, he blurted "let's stick together around school?" A short pause. Albus started to regret asking that stupid, stupid question. 'Oh brilliant', he thought sarcastically, 'why do I always have to act so stupid and desperate? I wish I was more like James...' Older brother James. He was popular, confident, sporty, good looking; everything Albus wanted to be. Sometimes life just really wasn't fair, he sighed.
Suddenly, Madame Montiere appeared with his newly sewn robes and handed Scorpius and Albus each a small bundle. Still waiting for his father, Albus searched around in a panic for something interesting to say, something that wouldn’t make him sound weird or desperate, but at that moment Harry, James and Lily walked in laden with school books and Albus let out a huge sigh of relief.
