Brookyln

Wow. Yesterday had been eventful to say the least. The morning was great but the afternoon... Well, it didn't exactly go to plan...

Emily and I had just found Toby and I let the two of them do their little best friend handshake before stepping in to join Toby with congratulating Emily. I have to admit that their handshake was pretty adorable, even if it did attract a lot of odd looks. Not that I cared one tiny little bit.

The three of us began to walk to the school gates to meet Callum before walking on to Starbucks for a celebratory hot chocolate. All was fine until we bumped into Martha...

Martha and I had never really got along but she always insisted that we could 'overcome our differences and be together'. Not that I would ever let that happen, she disgusted me. All she did was bully the younger years and moan on about how dreadful school was despite the fact that she had only been at the academy for a week or so. There were so many teenagers that wanted to get into this academy and all she could do was complain about it - It was a shame that she was so good at football really.

As we drew closer to the gates, Callum walked over to meet us with Martha trailing along behind him. He gave me an annoyed look and jerked his thumb in Martha's direction. Callum joined our group and Martha stood infront of the four of us.

I looked her straight in the eye to let her know that I wouldn't be taking any of her nonsense today. It backfired. She now knew that she was going to be able to wind me up easily.

I followed her gaze as she spotted my hand in Emily's and then I looked on in horror as she walked towards me, shoving Emily out of the way and forcing me to put my arm around her. I saw the excitement from the match disappear completely from Emily's eyes and felt a wave of guilt wash over me. I turned to face Martha, pulling my arm free from her tight grip and then stepped away to stand by Emily. Martha wasn't going to get to me that easily.

That was when Martha did something that took me totally by surprise. For that moment, everything seemed as though It was being played in slow motion.  Martha lunged forward, a look of utter disgust and anger spreading across her face. The world returned to it's normal speed as Emily took the impact of the movement and was thrown backwards. I had been unaware of the crowd that had slowly been forming around us until now when twenty or so voices erupted into a chant. "Fight! Fight! Fight"

I moved towards Martha to make her pay for what she had done but Callum and Toby stopped me. For a moment i struggled, fighting back. Then i relaxed and realised that maybe Callum and Toby were doing it for my own good. Knowing that she had made an impact, Martha turned and walked away, followed by a group of students. I noticed that none of those who followed had ever been friends of mine... What a coincidence

I heard voices and turned to see Mr Johnson running towards the group of us, his attention focused on Emily who was sat on the ground. Callum and I also ran towards Emily who was sat leaning against Toby. Only now did I see the pain in her eyes as I watched tears roll down her face. I crouched at her side taking over from Toby as a support.

After asking what had been going on and receiving a detailed answer from Callum, Mr Johnson returned to examine Emily's leg. I too took a look and to my horror, found myself looking away immediately in what can only be described as disgust.

That's when I felt the tears begin to roll down my face too.

Thankyou for reading :)
