Brooklyn

“I actually just had a great day out shopping” I admitted to Toby and Callum as we sat having a drink in Starbucks.

“You mug” Toby laughed.

“Oh great I sound like my mum. Please tell me I didn’t just say that.”

“Nahh you definitely just said that” Callum joined in.

I hung my head in shame.

“Right come on lads, it’s time we headed back to meet Sir.” Toby said, gesturing for Callum and I to finish our drinks.

“Toby it’s half two… We don’t have to meet him till three…” Callum reminded him.

“Yeah but I don’t want to be late!”

Toby was always looking for ways to impress Mr Johnson, probably only because he wanted to be picked to coach the younger teams back at the academy. Neither Callum nor I could stand Toby fidgeting in his seat so we finished our drinks and then made our way back to the meeting place.

Emily

Two coffees and fifteen purchases later, Lilly and I agreed that we had had enough and made our way back to the meeting point with ten minutes to spare.

“I can’t believe we tried on twenty pairs of football boots between us” Lilly said, reflecting on the time we had spent in the sports shop. We’d both found a pair that we liked within the first few boxes but had decided to keep looking just so that we could continue to talk to the shop assistant.

“Well it was successful,” I joked.

“Yeah, definitely” She winked back at me.

We neared the boys.

“Hey girls, what did you buy?” Toby called us over.

Lilly began to show Callum and Toby what was in her many bags as I went to stand with Brooklyn.

He slipped his hand into mine.

“What did you buy then?” He asked.

“No way as much as Lilly but I got; a new pair of boots, some sunglasses for when we go to the cup final in Australia, a few makeup bits, something for my family and some more laces to jazz up my astro boots.”

“Not too bad” He laughed, “Liking the optimism about the cup final.”

“Well, someone has to be optimistic.”

“We’ve got Mr Johnson for that” Brooklyn reminded me.

“Speak of the devil…”

Mr Johnson came sprinting round the corner.

“Sorry guys! Didn’t mean to be late! Right all aboard the banter bus!!”

Mr Johnson really did have infectious optimism but I wasn’t sure that he really should be calling our minibus the banter bus. Whatever we did talk about on the bus was certainly not banter. To be honest, it was mostly just the boys yelling about how some player had the same shoes as them or how they wanted to get their hair cut like some other player. It was quite sad really.

Brooklyn

After we had gotten back from shopping, Toby and I had gone out to the back of the hotel for a kick about.  The conversation was mainly about Emily. The good thing about Toby was that even though he could be a right nutter sometimes and a real pain most of the time, he had always been there for me and I knew I could count on him whenever.

“Okay so Emily wants me to ask her out?” I asked, summing up the converstation.

“Yeah basically,” Toby replied.
