Brooklyn

I woke up to an empty room without Emily. I guessed that she had gone downstairs to be with the rest of my family so I decided I would go and join them. As I was about to walk down the stairs, I heard Harper crying and went into her room to find her sat on her bed, her arms outstretched trying to reach her doll that was on the floor a few meters away.

I went over and picked up the doll, giving it back to Harper. She reached out for me (she normally does this when she wants to be picked up) so I bent down and scooped her into my arms. I then swooped out of her room making plane noises as we went down the stairs and into the living room. I handed Harper over to mum and came and sat next to Emily. I noticed that she was still wearing her football kit from yesterday. I let her know and managed to slip in a compliment as I did so which made her blush. Emily blushed at a lot of things but it was cute, she also laughed at pretty much everything which I found quite funny too.

I stood up to go and make myself some breakfast and gestured for Emily to follow me. She noticed my gesture but checked with mum before getting up.

"Why did you check with Victoria if it was okay to follow me?" I teased as we entered the kitchen.

"Oh well she and I were talking and I didn't want to just leave without saying anything" She replied, going a little shy almost.

"oh what a little cutie you are" I winked.

"That's you bubs" She winked back.

I loved the way that we could tease each other  without the other taking it personally.

Emily

As I followed Brooklyn into the kitchen, him teasing me and me teasing him back as we went, It was impossible to ignore the searing pain in my leg. I hadn't put any dressings on it yet because the nurse had said to keep the wound open for a little time before covering with a new dressing. As Brookyln raided the cupboards for his breakfast, I bent down to look at the wound. I felt tears prick at my eyes as I did so and I hoped that I wouln't start crying in front of Brooklyn: Not again.

Brooklyn

Whilst pouring milk on my cereal I noticed Emily leaning on the side of the breakfast bar looking as if she was about to cry. I put the lid back on the milk carton and walked over to her. She looked up at me, our eyes met and she burst into tears. I felt my stomach flip and I pulled her into a hug.

"I'm sorry Brooklyn, I didn't mean to just cry in front of you again" She sobbed.

"Emily it doesn't matter, I'd rather I knew you were upset about something than not knowing, because that way I can try and help." I replied.

"Thankyou"

"It's okay, what's wrong?"

"My leg" She paused, "and Martha."

"Tell you what, let's go up to my room, We can talk about it there."

"What about your cereal?"

"My cereal can wait" I laughed.

She smiled at that. I pulled back from the hug and put her arm around my neck, then I picked up her legs and carried her up to my room.
