“Never do that to me again!” Ajax cried as Hermes set us down

“It is not every day that a mere mortal gets flown around by a god” I said reproachfully, “do not be disrespectful.”

I looked at the big sparkling golden gates before us as Hermes took off

“Come Ajax, our journey is almost at its conclusion.”

The gates opened and we were escorted through the palace of glittering gold and sparkling rubies to the throne room where Helios himself sat.

“Apollo” he boomed, “Do you know why I have called you here?”

“No illustrious one, please enlighten me.”

He gave me a disapproving look, but began none-the-less

“I am a titan and have been here a lot longer than you, but alas, I am growing old. I am tiring of my duties and must have someone succeed me…. Apollo, I want you to be that person.”

“But Helios” I said in astonishment, “our fight!”

“You only proved yourself more fitting for the title of the sun” he replied with a shining smile, “Your entire journey here was also a test. To see if you would be daring enough to ask Hephaestus, hot headed enough to unchain Prometheus, and trusting enough to tell Ajax who you really were.”

I sat down; it was so much to take in. Then I looked up at him.

“I am ready to take on my role as the new god of the sun” I said certainly, “you will not be ashamed.”

“The thought never even crossed my mind. Apollo; god of music, the arts, prophesy, and healing, will you take the role of the sun off my shoulders, and on to yours?”

“I will” I replied with pride, “I accept your offering, o’ fabled titan Helios, and I bow before you.”

“It’s about time you caught on my son” my father Zeus said, stepping out from behind a curtain, “Helios and I have had this planned for you for years!”

“Can I come back to Olympus now?”

“Of course!"

“Will you make Ajax the immortal minor god of archery?”

“If that is your wish, it shall be done” he said snapping his fingers

The room filled with light and suddenly Ajax began to glow until he was entirely light, and then he was gone.

“I have sent him to Olympus where he will be outfitted and told of what he has become. Now my son, let us me off.

And so my father and I walked hand in hand down the throne room hallway in the Castle of the Sun, each having gotten exactly what they wanted; command of their sons.
