Once upon a time...

More than a thousand of years ago...

Where the heat reigned and scorched half of the Earth...

Manny, the man on the moon, King of both light and dark, took pity on humans and created the Guardians.

Santa Claus to give them wonder.

Tooth Fairy to give them memories.

Easter Bunny to give them hope.

Sandman to give them dreams.

And...

Bogeyman to give them darkness.

The world was boiling in heat, almost all the water in Earth had dried up and people were grieving, wailing, for the lives that they lost and were about to lose.

It was then when Manny realized that the sun, where his beloved sister ruled, was burning every mortal with no intention of sparing anyone. He planned to stop her because even though the light gives the mortals a new life, it was also concealing them from the cruelty that it hid.

So, he sent his only daughter whom he loved fiercely to help the Guardians defeat the light who was blinding everyone from the truth. This princess of the moon and of light and dark was known to carry the power of ice and snow. Thus, she has many names, but she was widely known as the 'Snow Princess'.

Together, the Guardians and the princess, defeated the light, creating an alliance to treat the light and dark equally that made humans start to call it night and day. They began to live peacefully, reminding themselves that too much light can burn, that there was always darkness to hide them, that life was sometimes hard and harsh and there was the darkness that can help them escape it.

They lived in peace, as a child and as an adult. The Guardians remained on the human world, taking care of the children and giving them happiness, instead of going back to Manny, their King and creator. No one can see them but for those who believes and it had been that way for many years.

But, as another century past, the Bogeyman grew tired of the alliance and the peace. The power of darkness consumed him that it drove him into complete shadows, until he became darkness himself.

He turned his back on the Guardians, where his brother Sandman tried to convince him to come back. They fought but Sandman failed and lost his voice in the process. Bogeyman declared war against Manny and at the Goddess of the Sun, Meridith, even though he was the Snow Princess's most trusted friend.

The Snow Princess was hurt and was filled with sorrow at the loss of her friend that Manny had no choice but to create another guardian to protect the children of the world and also for the Snow Princess that was beginning to lose the way to the light through eternal darkness.

The new guardian that Manny created has the image of his beloved daughter that he also gave him the same power of ice and snow with a slight touch of the wind. But even if he looks almost the same as the princess, he was filled with fun and energy, something that the princess was not.

He was named the Winter Guardian and when he met the Snow Princess, he fell in love with her. The Snow Princess loved him as much as he that she regained the strength to save her friend from falling further into darkness.

They fought side by side for so many years until the Bogeyman was finally defeated. Though, no one knows, he left a little darkness before he disappeared—fear. And Pitch Black was born, the King of Nightmares and fear, Sandman's nephew.
