Serena looked at Clary, then sighed and walked into the Institute. Inside, Alec and Isabelle were talking to their mother. Serena could hear their conversation.
"There are rumors that local Shadowhunters have been interfering in Downworld affairs. But you two wouldn't know anything about that, right?" Alec and Isabelle shook their heads, and Serena had to hold back a laugh. Mrs. Lightwood glanced in Serena's direction, then turned her attention back to her children. "The Clave is sending an envoy. Who will be coming to observe us. And to gather information about Valentine to report back. But really to scrutinize our leadership, so I beg of the two of you, don't do anything that would cause the Clave to lose even more trust in us." Alec and Izzy nodded, then they walked away. Serena walked over to Izzy. "Don't make the Clave lose trust in you? Nothing more untrustworthy than letting a siren into the institute." Izzy smiled. "I'm sure you'll be fine."
The door opened. In walked a blonde girl. She walked over to Mrs. Lightwood. "I'm guessing that's the envoy the Clave sent?" Izzy nodded. She then turned to Serena, her voice barely a whisper. "Do you think you could eavesdrop on their conversation?" Serena looked at Izzy with an eyebrow raised, then focused on the envoy. "She is taking temporary control of the Institute." Izzy's eyes widened. "She's going to look for Clary." Serena looked at Izzy. "We should go." Izzy nodded, and they both headed for the door. Before they could get there, they were stopped by the envoy. "Hi, we haven't been introduced. I'm Lydia." Izzy tilted her head, and Serena slightly narrowed her eyes. "I'm Izzy, and this is Serena." Serena nodded, and Lydia shrugged, then walked away. Serena's gaze was on Lydia until she walked out of the door.
I'm actually loving this friendship between Izzy and Serena
