Valentine stepped out of a portal, and Serena felt very uneasy. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other. "This time you're not getting away." He walked over to Jace, and his men grabbed Serena's arms. As she fought against their firm grips, they wouldn't let up. "Finally ready to kill your own father?" Jace narrowed his eyes. "You abandoned me." Valentine sighed. "I was protecting you. You weren't ready then, but you've grown. You've become the warrior I've trained you to be." Serena rolled her eyes.
"You trained me well." Valentine looked at his son. "And yet, I still have so much to teach you. I brought you here for a reason. Look, fight me, and watch your friends die." He pointed to the men holding Clary, Simon, Serena, Alec, and Izzy. "See, you are strong, but they make you weak." Clary interrupted. "Let us go. You can have the book. We won't be able to stop you without it." Valentine chuckled.
"Ah, Clarissa. So like your mother. Willing to do anything for those that you love. I'm touched, but... the book was never part of my plan. I want you to wake up your mother. I know that you'll both join me eventually. It's fated." He stepped back. "You ready?" Jace hesitated. "If I go with you... promise me you won't hurt them." Valentine smiled. "You have my word." Serena rolled her eyes. "This is insane." Jace looked at Clary. "I'm sorry, Clary." Clary was holding back tears. "Jace... what are you doing? You can't be serious! Valentine is wrong. You're not like him. I'm not. You're not!" Serena could see tears in Jace's eyes. "You don't know that, Clary. You don't know that." Valentine ordered, "Let them go." The men let go of Serena, and she rubbed her wrists. Jace looked back at them before walking into the portal.
Later, Serena stood at the entrance to the Hotel DuMort. She raised her hand and knocked on the door. Raphael opened it. She faintly smiled. "Can I come in?" He nodded. "Yeah." She walked inside, and stood by the wall. "What's up?" Serena looked at him. "Valentine took Jace." Raphael's eyes widened. "And that probably means that there will be a war. Which means that we won't have enough moments of just us." Raphael pushed a strand of hair out of the way of her face. "Listen, Serena. That'll happen when it happens, but for now, it's just us." She smiled, and leaned forward to kiss him. It was more than the kisses they had shared. It was a soft, gentle kiss, as if to show that they really cared about each other's safety. Just the siren and the vampire.
Meanwhile, on a boat in the Hudson River, Valentine showed Jace around. "And this little downworlder is your responsibility. She is a hostage." He revealed the bag over the downworlder's head to reveal a young brunette, probably 19.
Jace sat down, and pulled the gag from her mouth. "Hey, calm down. I'm going to help get you out of here, but to do that, I'm going to need your help. Now, can you tell me your name?" The brunette nodded.
"M-My name is Allison."
And that is the end of book one. Question: should I make a second part of this book or a separate book altogether?
Also, what did you guys think?
