The very next day I find myself marrying Elham, I didn't have any time to talk to Elham as she kept herself locked in the room. On our wedding day as everyone congratulated us we were unhappy. Neither of us wanted to marry because I am nursing a broken heart while Elham loves someone else and moreover we had always seen each other as only friends
Not in my wildest dream had I thought I will marrying my Pagal jhalli friend, Elham. But yeah, Now I am Married to my best friend.
The marriage wasn't planned and so everything was done last minute, there weren't many people invited only one or two families from the building, only those who are close to us. As the Maulana reads the Nikaah, I kept wondering where my life is heading. What am I doing? Is this right?
Soon the Nikaah is done, as I sign the legal documents I realize I am now a married man. I had never thought of getting married especially in this way, not even in my dreams.
I am urged into Elham's room and I find it awkward as I twist the doorknob. I knocked the door and enter only when I hear her voice. I squeezed my eyes tight and poked my head
'Fatto, don't create a scene and come' I hear her say agitated. I opened one eye and find her sitting on the bed dressed in her sky-blue Tee and black track pants. I am relieved. We hadn't dressed up in special dress for the wedding, everything was done with utter most simplicity.
She relaxes resting her back against the bed post. I walk towards the bed and take my seat at the extreme edge almost slipping from the bed.
'Fatto, I don't have thorns sticking out from my body, or Do I?' she says. I am taken aback by this question, what does she mean? I look at her confused. She chuckles and held my arm making me sit on the bed properly. I shift in my place. Elham announced that she is sleepy and within minutes I find she is snoring, too loud for a woman. I wanted to ask her about her decision of marrying me but I kept quiet and lay down on my side of the bed.
Half an hour later, I am struggling to sleep. The entire room is echoing with Elham's snores. Gosh! How did Mamma sleep in the same room with this woman? She is so loud. I kept tossing and turning on my side. As it is I have difficulty in sleeping and now she is making it more difficult for me. I sit up straight
'Elham! Elham' I called poking her arm, she grunts and pulls the duvet over her. Dragging half of my duvet as well. Great! Now I should sleep without a duvet and with these snores.
I look around searching the bedside table
'Ah ha!' I say happily as I find ear plugs, so this is the survival trick of Mamma. I smile widely and stuck the ear plugs into my ears and lay on the bed. I pulled the duvet from her clenches and closed my eyes. Seconds later, I find duvet pulled off me.
'Arghh...'
Next day, I wake up. I felt something soft pressed against me and some weight on my leg. Rubbing my eyes and find half of Elham's body over me, her leg on top of mine and her arms wrapped around my torso, her head on my chest. Eee.... she had been drooling in her sleep I concluded as I find her dry salvia on my chest.
I sit up straight startling Elham.
'Huh! What happened?' she says sitting up straight and looking around as though the house is on fire. She turns and looks at me, horrified.
'Fatto, what are you doing in my room and on my bed?' she says
I smacked my forehead, I then reminded her that we had married yesterday. She blinks at me and then she burst out laughing as realization dawned on her.
