My Brittle Barricade

Chapter 30

I was lying beside nick.
I couldn't believe this happen.
There was blood everywhere.

That morning.
Today was the best day of my life.
Lily was finally going to be getting out of prison.
I was at the gates outside waiting for her to walk out of that small door.
It's been a year since I've seen her, and I've missed her.
We did write to each other and she asked me not to tell nick or Vic that we did this.
And I did have my own flat so nick and Vic won't see the letters.

I was at the big black prison gates waiting for her to walk out of the door.
I was standing on my own and the officer behind the gate kept looking at me.
I know lily was getting out today I got phone calls , texts and letters saying today was the day.

The door opened and my heart stopped.
Was this lily walking out, am I going to see my best friend now.
But it wasn't it was some other women with tattoos down her arms.
She just looked at me like I was out of place.

I walked over to the officer , who was locking the gate.
"Hi , um , my friend lily is meant to get release today, do you know anything about it , because she late coming out" I asked him.
" there's a delay with the systems go back to the waiting area." He said

He wasn't very helpful.
as I was lost in my thoughts the door opened and lily ran out.
She called my  name and she looked so different then I remember.
Well seeing her in her own clothes was a change the prison clothes did not look good on her.
And before I knew it I was hugging her.
But it took me a while to notice she wasn't alone.
She had a baby.
I looked at her confused.
And giving her looks to explain whys she holding a baby.

"I'll explain everything but I want food" so she decided to go to the little cafe down the street.
Well she did just get out of prison so she definitely deserves to go to her favourite place
She told me that she found out she was pregnant and the doctor inside moved her to a prison that allows you to keep your baby for a certain amount of hours.
The baby was 2 weeks old and she was tiny.
She called the baby Emily.

Lily told me before the only thing she ever wished for was a little girl of her own.
A nice little family of her own.

As we walked down the streets I noticed everyone looking at us, well mostly her.
Parents bringing their kids closer to them or crossing the street.
Then other kids texting on their phones.
Or just looking away.
And I guess lily pick up on my mood and said " don't worry about the people, just remember you're not the one fresh one out of prison, and with a baby.

Hours went by and we were just talking and it felt like she never left.
One night we were talking , we might have been drunk , but we made a plan one day to run away from it all.
She wanted to get away from it more then me.
Move to a new place.
Start fresh.
And now she has her little one to think off.

She found a little house in a small town in the Greek islands.
It had 2 bedrooms, a small kitchen, bathroom and a sitting room.
The pictures she had made me want to go out there and live with her.

And our drunk intoxicated self did that.
One night on a strangers roof we deceived to move to the unknown place and change and start over.

When we were in the coffee shop we started talking about it.
She was actually going to do it.
She knew what would happen if she stayed.
She would get pulled back into a life she doesn't want.
And she didn't want that life for her new baby Emily.

Neither one of us noticed Vic walk in until he pulled a chair beside our table.
" so the whispers  are true." He said
He sat down smiling and I looked around for nick but I didn't see him.

"Aww how cute , a little love bird looking for her man" Vic said to me.
" Vic I didn't think you know anything about love." Lily said to him.
And like she always does , stick up for me.
I loved having her back.
