Elena and the eldest Salvatore are cooking in the kitchen while Laura stands near them, supervising.
"I just don't know why you want to bring chili to a potluck. Everybody brings chili"
"It's true, theres always 10 chili dishes" Laura says, looking behind to see that Alaric entered.
"Hey Ric".
"What's up?".
"What time do you want to go to the Lockwood party?".
"Ah. Those founders parties aren't really my thing".
"Show up, there's going to be nine other people that brought chili".
"It's an old family recipe okay?".
"Yeah! I know. I knew your old family. They made sucky chili".
Elena smiles at Damon, sharing a small moment which the other two raise their eyebrows at,
"Why are you here, exactly?".
"She knows".
"He thinks I'm going to break. I'm not going to break. I am just going to keep making chili, pretend like I didn't just spend the entire summer looking for someone who didn't want to be found".
"She's in denial".
"I'm not in denial",
"No?". Damon steps towards her, touching the necklace that Stefan gave her. "You're still wearing this necklace. Isn't this the reminder of your unbreakable bond with Stefan".
After Elena continues with the chili, Damon and Alaric both leave. Someone knocks on the door which the elder brunette happily opens.
"I come bearing gifts!" Caroline chirps, holding a bowl of food.
"Please say that's not chili..." Elena says, walking out into the hallway to join them. The blonde vampire moves aside, revealing Bonnie behind her,
"Bonnie!" The two Gilbert's exclaim.
"I'm back!". They both hug the Bennett girl, smiling "I leave town for the summer and everything goes to hell for all of you". The four of them walk to the kitchen, all helping and watching Elena cook.
"The problem with my dad's normal side of the family is normal made for a really boring summer" Bonnie says.
"After the last few days, I would kill for a normal family". Caroline helps Elena pour the chili "Since when did you learn how to cook?"
"Damon helped a little"
"Damon's helping you cook now?".
"He was flirting with her the whole time" Laura says, smirking
"Stop judging. He's just trying to be a good - ow!". Elena's hand goes to her neck.
"Did I splash you?".
"No no, my necklace". She pulls the necklace away from her skin, spotting a burn mark underneath, where the pendant was. It burned me". Her sister unclasps the necklace, handing it to her.
