"Did you see your mother's body after the crash?" Natasha pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose.

I cringed at the question she was asking, I mean who would possibly think that a teenager would want to talk about her mother's body?

I sighed, sucking up the attitude I was ready to give her. "Yes, but not right after it happened. I saw her body in the morgue."

I spoke with such blandness, my mind flashing to the moment I saw her body on that cold metal table.

I walked out of the bathrooms, the heat from the sun radiating off of my sunscreen covered skin.

I smiled as I saw Cole leaned up against the brick of the outside bathroom wall, holding our bag full of towels and snacks, while staring at his phone.

Today was the first day of summer, being one of the hottest days of the year. Cole and I decided to each take a day off work and come to the beach on a day that not that many people would be able to.

Most children were at school and most adults at work, so there was only a couple families spread out along the shore.

I walked over to him, my flip flops clicking as I walked, leaning over his shoulder and looking at his phone.

"Whatcha doin'?" I giggled, startling him.

He quickly pulled his phone to his chest, turning around to look at me with a smirk. "Not picking out your birthday present, that's fursure."

"Cole, I told you not to get me anything." I rolled my eyes dramatically, grabbing his hand and beginning to lead him to the sand as we talked.

I smiled in delight, as I felt the warm sand push between my toes. The warm breeze sent chills up my spine as it came in contact with my bare skin.

"I said I wasn't." He teased.

"Yeah, whatever Sprouse." I stopped, thinking I had found the perfect spot.

"Here." I spoke as if I was a child.

"Whatever you wish, my darling." He joked, causing me to stick my tongue out at him.

"You're such a child." He pointed out.

"And?" I cocked an eyebrow, crossing my arms.

"Just putting it out there." He hummed, continuing to set up our towels and umbrella.

I was wearing a black, Calvin Klein bikini today. My blonde hair was styled into beach waves, aviator sunglasses covering my green eyes.

I set the basket Cole had handed to me down on our blanket, pulling Cole down with me as I sat down.

"Don't you just love the beach?" I sighed, mesmerized by the scenery before us.

Cole went to respond, but before he could, he was cut off by a little girl in a pink bathing suit.

"Uh, hewwo, my name is Meredith." She waved, flashing her toothy smile.

"Hi, I'm Ember and this is Cole." I identified for her, pointing to the dark headed boy beside me.

"Is there something we could help you with, Meredith?"
