This is Love (not the story)

Sitting around a table in the center of a cafe in Sheffield, three young women sipped at their drinks. Two of the girls, the ones with curly hair, spoke animatedly to one another whilst trying include the other in conversation. But she paid no attention to them as the stared down at her cup absentmindedly with her hand resting on her swollen stomach. Yes, she was pregnant - with twins to be exact, the father of the babies was Danny O’Donoghue.

Danny.

His name sent waves of pain through her body and it had done for a month - she missed him. A month since she last saw his face, heard his voice.

It has been two months since his surprise proposal. Yet, she remembered the day as if it was yesterday. “So Lacey, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”  His words still echoed through Lacey’s mind - as did the events that transpired after his proposal.

Shocked, Lacey stood there, eyes and mouth wide. He had just asked her to marry him in front of his family on Christmas day. Through the shock, the girl knew that deep down, she wasn’t ready, she wasn’t ready to be a mother or get married. She knew that they had moved too fast. The girl knew that if she said no, it would break his heart but if she said yes, she would end up being the one hurt. 

As a minute passed and she still hadn’t said anything, Danny’s hopeful eyes began to fade and his smile turned into a frown. His eyes watered. The face of a heartbroken man. His expression broke Lacey’s heart but she couldn’t marry him but she did love him.

“Danny, I’m doing this for you - because I love you - I can’t marry you.”
