Today's the day, I thought as Will and I sat at the convention. I nervously looked at my watch almost every 10 minutes, paranoid I would miss the flight. Last night, while Will was asleep, I secretly bought a ticket back to Seattle, making sure he didn't suspect anything. I sat at the hockey event now, watching some of this country's finest players talking about their lives and careers, and as much as I wanted to listen, I couldn't focus. I glanced over at Will, who was smiling and attentively listening to Lori Atkins talk about his rise to fame.

I should call Emi at least once, I thought. I haven't heard from her ever since we left. I told Will I was going to take a call and stepped outside. I remembered Emi's home number to the best of my ability and called her, hoping it was the right number. It rang  about 3 times before I heard the clicking sound. Someone had picked up.

"Hello?" came the quiet voice of Emi from the other end.

"Hello? Emi, it's me Jake. You okay?" I asked her hurriedly.

"Yeah I'm fine....so about today," she began.

"Yeah I now, just do everything according to plan ok?" I said to her.

"Ok. Are you okay? How's Will?" She asked.

I felt a pang when she asked about Will. Somehow she still cared enough to ask for him.
"He'd good. I'm fine too,thanks" I responded.

"Okay, I'll see you then. Keep in touch," she spoke. Then she hung up the phone. I sighed and looked down at the phone. Then I went back inside the event.

"Who was that?" Asked Will as soon as I got back. I was a little startled when he asked, unsure of what to respond.

"Uh, it was my transfer counselor, I applied for a transfer to the Seattle school district. She was following up on the process," I lied. I hoped it was convincing enough.

"Ok,cool. Hey you missed Atkins talking about the game he had against Toronto where he scored 3 goals." He said excitedly. I nodded and smiled back. I looked down at my watch again-4:43pm.
