Where was he?! I looked back and forth trying to figure out where Will had gone. The door was locked and he wasn't picking up his phone. The lights in the house were also locked. Was he gone, was he not home? I looked at the gate to the house. An elaborate plan started to form in my head. Could I escape today?
I tiptoed to the gate, not wanting to make any noise. I reached the black metal fence and gripped it with my hand. It felt cold, so cold it made me jump at first. I touched it again and gripped it tighter with my hand. I can't believe I'm doing this,I thought. Adrenaline began to pump through my veins. I felt a rush of excitement and thrill in my body. It almost had a dizzying effect on me. I held the gate with my hands and got ready to push it open. And then-
"Emi? What are you doing over there?" a voice from behind came. I spun around wildly to find Will standing by the front door. A wave of despair fell over me as my stomach dropped to my knees. I was at a loss for air, as if I was being suffocated. My mouth felt dry and my palms were sweaty.
"Aren't you going to come inside?" he asked sweetly. What is wrong with him, I thought. How come he's not freaking out?
"Now come inside it's cold out here." he said almost like a worried parent. I nodded and began to come towards him nervously. He let me in through the front door. Had he really not noticed that I was trying to escape? We climbed upstairs to our room and Will closed the door.
"Alright I'm really tired so turn off the lights. Go change and then come sleep." he said calmly. He rubbed his eyes and lay down into the bed, turning to the right. I gaped at him.Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I got my clothes and went into the bathroom to change. When I came out, I was surprised to see the light still on. Even more surprising, Will was sitting up straight in bed, with his back to me. Looking closely, I saw cigarette smoke start to come out from his side. I must've made some sort of noise coming out of the bathroom, because he turned around to face me. Confused on what to say, I stated the obvious.
"Are you smoking?" I asked nervously.
"Had to."
"I thought you quit two years ago."
"Eh, some old habits die hard I guess." A puff of smoke came out of his cigarette.
"It's really bad for you, you know."
"It's not for me as much as it's for you." he said coldly. He examined his cigarette by holding it really close to his face, tilting his face to see it from every angle. Then he got up off the bed and came up towards me.
"Wha-what are you doing with that?" I asked nervously, backing into a corner."
"Just a new experiment that I would like to try out," he said in a calm but creepy tone.I watched him take his every step is if he was savoring every minute. He watched my facial expressions with great joy, knowing how scared I was. He was inches away from me now, cigarette in hand as I weakly brought my hands up to my face for defense.
He took the hot cigarette and placed it up my right nostril. I screamed and squirmed in pain, as the ghastly smell of the smoke and singe. I tried to run away but Will placed his forearm beneath my chin like a bar and pinned me against the wall. Swear started to form on my upper lip and forehead. I panted heavily, but not wanting to inhale the cigarette. He finally pulled the cigarette out of my nostril as I held my hands up to my nose. Will opened the window and threw the cigarette out. He smirked at me and then went into the bed, pulling the covers over him. I slumped against the wall and cried quietly until I fell asleep on the floor.
