My face tingled as I felt the heat of the shower leave when stepped out. I came out to the room, drying my hair. Time to hit the pool, I thought. I was actually glad that I came out here with Jake. Emi was safe at home with Lynn, and I was actually having a great time. Oh-Emi, I thought. I had to call her back about now-I think she should be free. I went over to my bed and picked my phone up. Drying my hair, I dialed home. The phone rang for about 5 rings, and then went to voicemail. That's weird, I thought-no one is picking up. Worry started to build up inside me. I called again, hoping it was all a misunderstanding and that someone would pick up now. Again, the phone rang 5 times, and went to voicemail. Where was Emi, and where was Lynn? I ran my hand through my hair, anxious now. I looked at my watch as a million different thoughts ran into my head. Where was Emi, did she..escape?
I started pacing back and forth in the room. Then, I noticed something on Jake's bed. Curious, I went over to look at what it was. It was a pink post it note, crumbled up and set aside near the pillow. I opened it and looked at the tiny writing inside.
1561 Gem Street, 7:00 pmWhere was this address for, I thought. Gem Street was back on Seattle.. Maybe it's an address for work, I thought. I tossed it back onto his bed and went downstairs to the pool.
When I got there, looked around for Jake, who wasn't there. I went back to the fitness center and asked for his name. The receptionist recalled no such name signing in. I looked puzzled-where did he go off to? I went to the main lobby, to see if he had left a message for me. The receptionist looked at her log for Jakes name-she found it and sat up. "Yes,Mr. Monroe said to tell you that he had to leave in an emergency." She spoke.
"What emergency?" I asked.
"I'm not sure sir, he didn't say," she said shaking her head.Flustered, I ran back to our room and slumped on the bed. Where did he go, and why didn't he tell me, I thought. Just then, I heard something start to ring slightly. It was a phone ringtone. I followed the faint sound to the drawer near Jake's desk and opened it. His phone was ringing from a blocked number. I picked it up and waited to see who was calling. Before I had a chance to say hello, I heard someone frantically speaking on the other line.
"Jake! It's Emi, come soon, I'm here!" Someone spoke. My eyes widened and I was choked with disbelief to the point where I couldn't speak. Emi?! What did she mean?! Is that why she wasn't picking up?! And where were both of them planning to go?! Furious, I threw the phone onto Jakes bed, and my eyes caught the pink post it again. 1561 Gem Street, 7:00 pm.
I jumped over to my bed and dialed a number quickly.
"Hello, Tanner? I need a favor." I said.
