The cab driver left after I gave him $11 for the ride. He said thank you and sped away. I looked up at the red-brick house and then at the address on my hand. I breathed deeply and went up the steps. I knocked on the door, and as soon as I did, the door creaked open a little. I pushed the brown door back and peered inside.
There was a hallway, with plain, white painted walls. I walked through the hallway, and found a huge living room awaiting me. The living room was just as plain as the hallway. A subtle yellow color was on the walls , accompanied with a plush red couch. The floor was hardwood, with dust built up on the sides of the room. I looked around, to see a room with a brown door- the bedroom. It was a one level home, with everything you need. But whose home was this? There was a dusty grandfather clock, from which I was able to make the time out of. 6:15. Jake was supposed to be here any minute. Tired and weary, I looked for a place to put my head down. I decided to lay down on the couch and rest for a little bit. I rubbed my eyes and fell asleep, intending to wake up when Jake came.
The loud sound of something booming awoke me suddenly. I opened my eyes with a jolt and looked around. It was pitch black. The flashing strikes of lightening outside carried white flashes through the living room. Another roar of the thunder boomed. What time is it, I thought. Suddenly, something interrupted my thoughts. I felt something drip on my head. I held my hand up to my scalp and looked at what it was. Water. Another fat drop plopped onto my head. The ceiling, there was a leak. Sighing, I moved away slightly. What time was it?
I got up and went over to the front of the room to turn on the light. My hand scanned over the bare wall- no light switch. I made my way to the grandfather clock and peered at it hard. 9:12 pm. Where was Jake?! Why was he so late. I ran over to the bedroom and the kitchen, and the hallway- no one. He hadn't come yet. But why? A cold draft came from the hallway as I held my arms close together.
I went back to the living room and sat down on the couch. I rubbed my forehead, trying to ease the tension building up inside me. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door as someone creaked the door open and came in. Jake! He was finally here! I excitedly ran to the hallway to see him standing there. The storm rolling behind him. I ran up to him and hugged him tight.
"Jake I was so worried! I'm so relieved you're here!" I said, gasping, almost out of breath. He stood stiff, not embracing me back. As I started to pull away from him, I noticed a flash of lightening strike down on his face. My eyes widened as I looked into his eyes. He grabbed me by the arms and smiled-
"I'm glad I made it too Emi.." said Will.
