You Are Ben Tennyson

Dr. Heaven Canceller was not only a man with a very peculiar name, but also a doctor of considerable skill. He had seen it all...limb lost, cancer, comas, problems with esper abilities.....everything. But never had he seen as strange a case as the memory loss of Ben Tennyson.

Heaven Canceller looked like an ordinary elderly man, except his face looked sort of like that of a frog's. (Ben described him as a human version of Bullfrag). Currently, he was looking over several x-rays of Ben Tennyson's brain. Outside his office, he knew that the number 3 esper known as Misaka Mikoto was waiting anxiously for the results of his check-up.....but for once he wasn't sure of what to say. He had seen incurable cases of memory loss before. However, they always had an explainable cause. A reason to why the memories were completely gone.

However, this time, Dr. Heaven Canceller could not find any discernable reason for Ben's memory loss. The brain had not been physically damaged in any way. And He could find no past cases of psychological trauma in Ben's recent history that could cause such a loss of memory. Heaven Canceller sighed, it was time to face facts, whatever caused this was completely supernatural.

Mikoto stood up from the waiting bench in the hospital hallway as the frog faced doctor walked out looking solemn. "Well.......is there anything you can do?"

"I'm afraid that memory loss is never an easy topic." said Heaven Canceller shaking his head. "With Touma Kamijou's case, his brain cells had become fried by some sort of external force. However, with Ben Tennyson, that's a stranger issue altogether. There is nothing wrong with his mind at all, it's as if his memories just willed themselves out of existance, nothing hidden under the surface psychologically, or physically."

Mikoto paused for a moment looking down. "What am I supposed to do then......?"

"Well, for now, I would suggest that you keep Ben's memory loss on the down low." said Heaven Canceller. "As he is already quite famous....it would cause quite an uproar. And speaking of which, I cannot yet explain why Ben still remembers you and the Omnitrix. However I can tell you what he does remember."

"..................."

"He still remembers the basics on how to use and control the Omnitrix." continued Heaven Canceller. "And he seems to remember every single thing about you, from your appearence to the status of your relationship. However it can become quite distressful and confusing for him...."

"What do you mean?" said Mikoto. "Isn't the fact that he still remembers something a good thing?"

"Normally one would think so." said Heaven Canceller. "But let's say he remembers you and that date you two had on March 14th.......but as it so happens, most of that date was spent helping out another friend of yours whom Ben can remember nothing about. Having memories about something yet not remembering why and how it happened.....it's like having water appear out of thin air without the rain cloud or the precipitation.....in a way, it's even more confusing then complete memory lost. He remembers you two met, but he doesn't remember how or why. He remembers he has a device that can change him into aliens, but he has absolutely no memory of why or how he got the Omnitrix in the first place."

"That sounds........painful." said Mikoto. "How is he right now?"

"Very confused." said Heaven Canceller with a sigh. "He keeps asking how in the world he unlocked Jetray. I think it would be good for him to see a psychology expert over the next few weeks to help him adjust....I've told his family, but I've also recommended they don't see him for now.....having all these things he can't remember pile on him at once would only make things worse. For now, try and keep him calm and comfortable....."

"C-can I see him?" Mikoto asked.

"Sure you can." said Heaven Canceller. "However I must ask you to wait a little bit, I still have to run a few X-rays...."

Mikoto sat back down on the bench as the frog faced doctor walked back into his office. A little later, a red twin tail haired girl burst into the hallway panting and stumbled over to Mikoto. It was Shirai Kuroko.

"S-Sissy!!" said Kuroko. "There's something really weird going on. Please tell me, do you remember-?"

"Kuroko, it's okay." said Mikoto. "I remember everything too. The war, Alien X, everything."

Kuroko sat down next to Mikoto with her hands on her head. "What happened? One moment, Academy City was dark wreck, aliens being captured everywhere, and the entire world was entering into a massive war over Ben..... But then....I just suddenly found myself in the diner, and it was as if none of it had ever happened......I ran around asking people if they remembered the war.....but everybody just looked at me with a super confused expression!!"

"It was Alien X..." said Mikoto. "Ben used Alien X to reverse all the results of the war and caused everyone except his friends to forget about Alien X and what had happened. I've just called Gwen and Kevin.....they remember the whole thing.....so does Helen and Touma. Even that Rex kid remembers..."

"Rex?"

"Just some Providence agent we met....."

"So what are you doing here?" Asked Kuroko. "You don't have a check-up scheduled for today do you?"

"No." said Mikoto. "It's nothing like that........it's just.........."

"Yeah Sissy?"

"Kuroko.....Ben's lost his memories.....Alien X took them away, in return for doing all this stuff.........sorry...I can't....." Tears began to form at Mikoto's eyes. Mikoto wiped her eyes as Kuroko put a hand on her shoulder.

"His memories?" said Kuroko looking stunned. "He can't remember anything?"

"Nothing except me and the Omnitrix.....other then that he forgot his friends, family, life, even his own name..........he's in a complete blank!"

"..........Sissy.........what are you going to do.......?"

Mikoto didn't say anything.

Heaven Canceller came out of his office. "He's ready for you, you'll find him two doors to the left......."

Mikoto got up and thanked the frog faced doctor and proceeded over to room 218, leaving Kuroko alone with Heaven Canceller. Mikoto then opened the door and walked in.

Ben Tennyson sat on the hospital bed wearing his normal black hoodie, white shirt and dark jeans, looking out the window, as if he was attempting to force a memory of the Academy City skyline out of his head. Ben turned to look at Mikoto.

"Oh......hey there Sparks." said Ben smiling slightly. "How's it going?"

He still remembers the nickname he has for me. Thought Mikoto.

"Hey Ben......are you doing alright?"

"I wish." said Ben scratching his head. "It's all so painful.....Just hearing my own name seems to jog something....but I don't even know what are why it does that.....As far as I know, I could be some guy named Joe Bob."

"......................"

"It's alright though." said Ben with a sad smile. "I guess I can adjust......somehow........I'll just need to keep on trying...."

"Well you won't be alone!" said Mikoto sitting next to Ben. "I'm going to reteach you everything.....starting now............You are Ben Tennyson. Your home town is in Bellwood back in the United States. Your favorite restaurant is Mr. Smoothies. You've saved the entire universe at least once. And you.......y-you.....y-you're possibly the bravest person I've ever met......................" Mikoto couldn't help it anymore, she burst into tears and hugged Ben while crying into his shoulder.

"Y-you.....are Ben Tennyson........." said Mikoto between her tears. "And you're my hero.......got it?"

Ben put his arms around Mikoto and hugged her back. "Yeah........I'm Ben Tennyson........thank's for clearing that up..................Mikoto."

And together, the two sat there embraced..........and though it seemed like the end.......a new tale was just beginning.
