"Mum, do I have to go to school today?" Noelle asked as she entered the kitchen in her pajamas.

"Of course you do, now hurry up and eat so you can get your uniform on and we can head out on time." I told her in a rush to get breakfast ready.

"But I'm not feeling well," she felt her stomach.

I looked at her, raising an eyebrow. "Nice try Noelle, how many times have I heard that one?"

"I really don't feel well, mum." She looked at me with her pleading emerald eyes, saying so much more than just feeling sick.

"Honey, you've already missed two days this week. Your teachers have called telling me that you are having trouble trying to keep up, you need to go to school." I rubbed her shoulder.

"Okay," she whispered, her voice suddenly sounding weak and frightened.

A few minutes later, I lay the perfectly cooked breakfast for four on the breakfast. Jasper, being 18, trots down the stairs, sitting down on one of the tall stools to eat.

"Morning Jasper, honey." I greet him, receiving a grunt from my son who is definitely not a morning person.

Next to descend down the stairs is Harry, my husband of 21 years. His black work suit fits him very well. His hair spreads with sparse, wispy grey streaks showing his age, although it really suits him. I laugh as he stands in front of me, gesturing for me to tie up his neck tie because he has never learned to conquer it on his own.

"Thanks baby," he grabs my hips and plants a kiss on my forehead after I had finished, taking his place at the breakfast bar. No matter how old we are, he still acts like we're teenagers again.

"You really have to learn to tie your own tie," I scolded him playfully.

"Sorry, my head is a little scrambled." He smiled goofily, gesturing to the scrambled eggs on his plate. I shook my head, giggling at his corny jokes that never seem to end.

Before I could respond, I heard Noelle retreating from the stairs. Her eyes reverted down as she veered towards her plate, but walked right past it to the wooden chairs seated next to the small kitchen table. Harry and Jasper failed to notice her, as they were occupied eating away at their breakfasts, but I noticed.

"Noelle, sweetie, aren't you going to eat breakfast?" I asked.

"I'm not hungry," she spoke, casting a glance to the two at the counter before turning her back to all of us.

"You're going to be hungry all day if you don't eat breakfast, you need to eat." I told her, but her back still continued to face me.

"Noelle," I pushed.

"I'm not hungry." Her voice held an annoyance.

"Well, don't blame me if you go hungry." I sighed, running a hand through my hair.

Noelle stood up, pushing back the chair harshly, that's when I realized she was wearing pants, not the skirt her school declared mandatory. For some reason, it was currently prohibited for a female to wear the male's pants and vice versa, it being a catholic school that believes god gave each person a gender that they should abide by.

"Honey, wheres your skirt?" I asked and she froze.

"Yeah, and what's up with the whole short hair thing?" Jasper butted in, pointing to Noelle's pixie short hair cut. "You look like a man." He laughed.
