Rin woke with a startle. Rex had dropped a log on the floor and made a loud bang, "Oh, sorry to wake you. I really need to stop dropping these things."

"Well, good morning, anyways. That moss wasn't nearly as comfortable as it was the two nights ago." Rin said, patting the back of his head.

"I'll start cooking this meat and then we can heading out."

"I can't wait! I've always wondered what it was like to fly. "

"Just so you know, once we start heading out to that mountain people will be able to see us. They'll know that we have come back and start hunting for us even more desperately."

"I'm supposed to stop them eventually. So why not let them see us?" Rin said, thoughtfully.

Rex chuckled a little as he took the brown meat off of the fire. They both ate hungrily since they hadn't eaten anything the night before because of the invaders. After they finished with their meal they helped each other put on armor and stacked up supplies on Rex's back.

"Ready to go?" Rex asked.

"I think so. That should be everything." Rin said. They headed out of the entrance to the cave, passing by the motionless bodies piled on top of each other. There really is just too much violence. I guess it can't be helped. Rin caught up to Rex standing almost fifty feet in front of him already, "Come on, you said you really wanted to do this, right?" Rex said.

"Of course I do! Let's go already." Rin said, determined to get to the council. He really doesn't know what's ahead of him, does he? Rex thought to himself. Rin climbed onto his back and sat in the saddle. It took him a bit to get comfortable as it wasn't the best seat in the world.

"You ready yet?" Rex asked.

"Yeah, I think so."

"Alright, here we go. Hold on tight." Rex said, looking back and smiling at him. His wings spread apart and came up. Then came back down with an extreme force and a huge gust of wind blew on his face. It blew away the leaves and made them fly as if a tornado had surrounded them. Then he felt himself being pulled down by gravity, he was starting to fly upward! This is so amazing! Why couldn't I have done this earlier? He laughed from the excitement and nervousness. He was really flying! The wind blew through his armor and made a slight whistling noise. He was still holding on to the saddle hard enough for his hands to turn pale white. He loosened his grip a little so he could get blood flowing through them again.

"You sure sound like you're having fun." Rex laughed, yelling back to Rin.

"Yeah! This is amazing! I never knew flying was this much fun!" Rin yelled.

"Well, we're going to be doing it for a while, so you'll probably get bored of it." Rex said.

"How could you possibly get bored with this?" Rin said, still smiling.

"I almost never get bored of it. I love hunting prey that can never escape me but still gives me a bit of a challenge. Rex said. He was glad that Rin was this happy. He won't be so happy later on. After all, he didn't seem all that enthusiastic after he killed that man. He lacks courage as of the moment.

"How long are we going to be flying?" Rin asked.

"However long I can fly. I need to take breaks too, you know."

"I guess you're right. We'll have to scout for places to stay during the night."

"Yes, we'll also need some source of water."

"I'll be sure to try my hardest finding one then!" Rin said excitedly, putting his hand in the air, but quickly put it down when he realized he was still flying.

About half an hour passed of almost silent flight when Rin caught a glimpse of something on the ground. He could barely see it because of how high he was, but he guessed it was a person, "Hey Rex, what's that down there?" he pointed at the object he saw.

"It's a person, be quiet. I'm going to fly up higher so they won't notice me. If it's a part of a larger group with ranged weapons, they could hit you and knock you off of me. Then we would be in trouble." Rex said as he started to ascend.

"I really hope they don't notice us now, we just left." Rin said, still looking down at the person walking. Less than a minute passed of staring when he noticed that the man wasn't alone. There were other people walking alongside him. They disappeared under the cover of the leaves and reappeared again. Rin could see that one was carrying a very long barreled gun. The butt of the gun was almost touching the ground and the barrel extended past his head. Probably used for extremely long ranges. Like dragon hunting, Rin thought to himself. The other man he saw had a sword around his back and another smaller sword at his side. Wait, how am I seeing all of this? There's no way I could be able to see things like that from here. When he looked straight down he realized he was right, they were at least two miles off of the ground. There was no way he could see that much detail even with the best of vision.

"Rex, why is it that I can see everything that they are wearing so easily?" Rin asked.

"That is something to discuss for another time. I will just say that you are special."

Unsure of Rex's answer, he focused on the back of the dragon's neck and pondered what he had said.

After twenty minutes of monotonous staring, Rin noticed that one of the men had slowed their pace. He sat down on a fallen tree and looked up into the sky. Oh no. Please don't see us, just stare over there somewhere, anywhere but here! But Rin's thoughts weren't heard. The man looked straight at him, pointing and shouting as he stood up and took the sword off of his back. The other man ran towards him and pulled the long rifle off of his back, it was amazing that he could even hold it.

"Rex, what do we do?!" Rin said with haste.

"I have to get out of their view somehow. I don't think I'll be able to get out of their range. I'll have to fly lower and hide among the tree tops." Rex said as he started to descend almost vertically.

Rin's face contorted as the wind rushed past him, trying to push him off of the saddle. The sudden jerk downward had pulled him back and made his loosen his grip on the saddle, making it all the harder to stay on. "We just started the journey and they're already trying to kill us!"

Rin kept staring at the man with the gun. He's loading it! A bullet was already in the chamber, all he had to do now was pull the trigger. We aren't low enough! He's going to hit us! No, we've barely even started and it's already going to end! He saw the end of the barrel pointed right between his eyes. Then a small flash of yellow light.

Then darkness.
