Rin awoke to the light of the sun peaking over the horizon. Rex's tail was still behind his head but Rex himself was up and talking. Raven was busy putting out the fire and had already packed their things. Rin sat up, his back was sore from the night. I guess I was right, he groaned. It wasn't long before Rin put his armor back on and put the saddle on Rex. It was an almost silent morning, nobody was talking except for the birds he could hear singing in the high treetops.
Not five minutes later he was sitting on Rex's back as he unfurled his wings and thrust them downward to create a violent gust of wind as they were lifted off of the ground. Raven was already hovering above the tree line waiting for them. Rex swiftly lifted upwards as Rin could feet gravity constantly pulling him back to the ground, as if it wanted him to fall. He wouldn't give into it though, for he was already too high to go back. As Rex flew forward into the horizon Rin could feel the cool morning wind hit his face along with droplets of water every now and then. It made his face tingle and made him wipe away the accumulated water every few minutes.
He tried focusing his mind on Raven and tried to get the feeling he did before when he heard others talking to him in his head. The familiar pain started buzzing inside of his brain but he ignored it as he tried to get to Raven. Raven? Raven can you hear me?
Yes I can hear you, what is it? She didn't even flinch as she talked.
Can't you feel the pain in your head?
Yes but I can ignore and control it a lot better than you can. Why do you think I'm taking you to my home?
Well I was just wondering how far it is from here. I can't see any possible places around here that are suitable for a dragon.
We'll be there soon enough. I don't live in a cave like Rex does. They're too dark and musky for my taste.
Hey! Rex cut in, I happen to really like my cozy little cave. I've grown quite fond of it.
Rex, how did you do that?
Anyone who has enough power with magic and is openly searching for someone talking telepathically can easily hear your conversations without you even noticing.
So, it's almost the same as talking? Rin asked.
A bit, but most people cannot use magic. Only those who have trained their minds are able to control and direct their thoughts at will.
Then how can I do this? I've never been near anything magical my entire life.
You've been around me for enough time. Raven only adds to that, though she's only been with us for half a day. We may have awakened your powers early. It could also be the fact that one of the mages had sent you a message yesterday.
Will I be able to shoot fireballs out of my hands? Rin was glowing with excitement, ready to train until his whole body ached.
Ha-ha, it's best that you keep that at a minimum, but yes, when your training is done you will be able to shoot fireballs out of your hands. Rex said with a deep, rumbling chuckle.
Rin couldn't help but laugh from Rex's amusement and his own excitement, Well, I don't know how well tiny fireballs would do in a war anyways.
Raven, what does your home look like if it isn't a cave?
It's a treehouse, I burrowed it out myself. It's a shame that I—or my rider—don't have the power to keep it alive for too much longer. I'd give it another ten years before it starts to rot away.
